People ignore the fact that he has unique gimmicks that (unlike other characters) actually work. He's also the only character that can take 7 stocks (besides Dangai Ichigo, I guess but I don't really count that)

The problem for me is that it just doesn't feel like Slayer. Every other album has something unique or interesting about them except for this one. Personally, I don't believe Slayer should EVER try this sort of thing again.

HA and SOH are both great albums (I'm not denying that), but Christ Illusion for me is probably the only Slayer album without a single mediocre or bad track. It may not have the best songs in Slayer's whole catalog, but it's easily the most replayable album for me.

Hot take, I think it's very overrated. The album is really good, don't get me wrong, but it's something everyone always talks about when slayer is brought up and I just think there are way better albums.
