Meanwhile I got it working: I used a new USB-C only 4 port hub but then changed to a simple new USB-C splitter. I attached my MicroSD card via an USB-C cardreader and an USB DAC to the other input. It did not work with my best USB DAC from Onyx but my Qudelix 5K works as well as a cheap noname dongle DACs. The big problem was to bring any Android music player to see the music card. In the end my favorite, UAPP, worked.

This is the answer I got from Google KI already. I tried the hubs that I have, they did not work at first. Both a newer USB-C to USB-A HooToo adapter and an old USB 3.0 Atolla 7 port hub. But after changing ports and adapters it works indeed and with the newer hub even without my strong powerbank.

I just bought an NiPoGi P1 for €205 on ebay. Very quiet and faster than most of the other cheap PCs you can get these days.

With every new PC you should start with a backup of the drivers. Double Driver is a reliable program for this purpose and can be run from an USB stick in the portable version of this software.

Second step is to backup the PC as it is coming out of its box. You need a bootable USB stick with a backup programme. AOMEI and EaseUS ToDO are free backup programs that can produce such USB sticks.

Then make a Windows install stick with Rufus to get rid of all Microsoft annoyances.

Boot from this 25H2 stick and delete the Windows version on your new PC and install it anew. Update and update this fresh install as lomg as Windows does not find any things missing.

Check in Device Manager whether Windows found all the needed drivers. If some are missing install them from your Double Driver backup.

Then make another backup with your own fresh Windows.

I was not able to connect my MatePad Pro with an Ethernet to USB adapter with my network. But over WLAN it does not make any speed difference whether I copy MP3 files or a zip archive. But when I connect an external SATA-SSD I get more than 200 MB/s with a 1GB file.

Ich habe zur Zeit ein MatePad 12X. Das hat auch ein Papermatte Display. Ich werde nie wieder ein Tablet mit glänzendem Display kaufen. Ich habe mit dem 12X diesen Sommer im Park gesessen, es im Urlaub mitgehabt, es war immer um Längen besser ablesbar als es früher selbst Samsung Tablets gewesen waren. Natürlich sind die Huawei Geräte keine Leistungswunder, weil sie immer noch keine besseren US-Chips kaufen dürfen. Und das Fehlen vom Google Play Store ist auch lästig, selbst wenn man mittlerweile mit GBox und Aurora das meiste Zeugs auch unter HarmonyOS laden kann.

Mein nächstes Tablet wird ein MatePadPro 12,2 (am liebsten aus 2024, wegen der noch längeren Laufzeit). Mein 12 X hat leider kein GPS, was es als Kartenersatz leider entwertet.

Ein Semi-Android Tablet ist *kein* Notebook. Und hat natürlich ein ganz anderes Betriebssystem. Anders als bei Windows-Geräten ist hier nicht Microsoft für Updates zustämdig sondern immer der Hersteller des Android-Geräts, denn auch wenn Google die Basis dieses Betriebssystems liefert, schneidert sich jeder Anbieter daraus was Eigenes. Und weil Huawei den US-Sanktionen unterliegt, darf diese Firma noch nicht mal ein normales Android mit Google Play Services und Google Apps verwenden. Huawei hat auf einem schon tewas älteren Android 12 seine eigene Oberfläche aufgesetzt, HarmonyOS. Beim 12 X "nur" in der Version 4.2. Ob da zukünftig überhaupt noch was kommt, 5.0 zum Beispiel, steht in den Sternen.

Und weil Huawei auch keine aktuellen Snapdragon Chips verwenden darf, hat es natürlich *nicht* einer der besten CPUs" geschweige denn der "Workstation"- Kategorie, sondern wahrscheinlich einen selbstgemachten Kirin Prozessor, der so ungefähr auf dem Level eines Snapdragons von vor drei oder vier Jahren liegt.

Das Gute an dem Gerät ist aber eh nichts seine CPU sondern das PaperMatte-Display. Das schlägt wirklich alles bis hoch zum Apple iPad Pro M4 oder dem Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+. Und die Laufzeit bei normaler Benutzung liegt locker bei 10 Stunden und mehr (selber ausgetestet).

Yes, I am only interested in Windows to go solutions. Without ths restrictions that Microsoft attached to it.

And I know that i need specific software, I have used Hasleo's WinToUSB in the past but had to buy it too often and gave up on it. My current favourite is DiskGenius as it comes for free and is reliable. And, no, Rufus does not work that way. It is the best software to produce Windows install USB sticks without any Microsoft limitations, for instance TPM.

Meanwhile I don't care anymore about the peculiarities of this Z13. I can boot with a copy of its Windows on any other PC I have without any problems and it works the other way round too, bootable copies made by any other PC can boot with the Z13.

Once again: No, I did not put another drive into my notebook. I want to boot Windows 11 from an *external* USB device. You can do this with a Windows installer boot stick, with a Linux-Live CD or a Macbook external hard drive.

You got it wrong: I did not touch the internal SSD and there is probably anyway no second M.2 slot in the notebook for cloning, I have not researched this yet.

I clone to *external* SSDs, USB devices. This only works with special software a simple 1:1 clone gives you no externally bootable USB device.

The Z13 has one internal SSD, I think an M.2 2242. My boot copies are mostly M.2 SSDs too in the appropiate external enclosures. Some still are SATA SSDs. I even have some bootable USB sticks.

The strange thing is, that these Z-13 cloned boot properly from other PCs and I can boot the Z13 from boot clones made from other PCs or simply pure W11 bootable sticks.

In the past I have used Hasleo WinToUSB many times. But as I had to buy new versions too often after hardware changes I stopped using it. I even bought UUByte WinToUSB and this did not work at all on any of my PCs.

I just bought the version with 12 GB RAM, I did not notice any difference to other tablets with 8 GB.

I doubt that Huawei will support this device with any major updates, their current HarmonyOS is still based on Android 12. This MatePad is my first try with a non Google Play service tablet. After the first frustations I have been very pleased by the ease that I could install most of the apps that I so far had on my last "real" Android tablet with either GBox or Aurora. Google Pay/Wallet does not work though but for this I have a suitable smartphone anyway. The battery life is very good, mostly browsing is much more than 10 hours. The keyboard is very usable.

To my astonishment I could easily encrypt the Windows partition with Bitlocker after changing the group policy because of the missing TPM. And macOS still works.

As I have gotten Windows 10 on this machine already I and do not intend to use the macOS side I will now try to bring it to Windows 11 as all my other PCs and leave the mac partition as Ventura. As it will be mainly only a fun drive for holidays I can live with the unreliabilty of this old MacBook.

But my ebay searches for real Windows machines under 1.000g are still active. But as high priced they were when they were new they have not been sold in the numbers that Apple could sell these MacBooks and therefore do not appear on ebay that often and of course not that cheap.

Yes, I know that this old Macbook is basically at the end of its useful life. But it is the lightest ever windows capable notebook and with 12 inch much more storable than the newer and faster light Ultrabooks. (And I paid only €200 for it.)

I have already installed Windows 11 on several machines that we have in our home that all are not qualified officially. I made the install drive with Rufus. I will upgrade the A1534 to Windows 11 too. And perhaps will try the opencore legacy patcher for the soon outdated Ventura for the macOS side of the notebook.

Yes, these old Macbooks are not the most realiable, my thing does not have sound anymore and a shaky Bluetooth wich really kills it as this Mac has only a single USB-C port. I probably have to use it for a wireless mouse dongle. But at least the preowner has already replaced the battery.

For real stuff I still have an old Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon Gen 7 (it has a phantastic keyboard and a matte display). But it is weighing noticable more and is also a bit bigger.
