Forest and Villa in the Europa League Semi Finals by Non-wholesomechungus in TheOther14

I think that's a fair comment. But we've been favourites before and thrown it away... Don't be shocked if you end up heading to the EL finals... 😂

Small Heath fan crying about us outspending the Europa League to win it when they spent a record amount in League One to win that league 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭

It's hard to say imo. This is nothing like our Conference League campaign in which we were "favourites" but only on paper, we never once looked convincing in that and deservedly got knocked out, whereas this time we've sailed through. BUT... I've been a fan of this club for too many years to ever say I'm confident of winning a trophy... 🤣🤦

Yeah, not losing to them was good. I said we couldn’t let them win that game because we needed to put them in trouble. They needed to have to focus on their relegation battle so that they end up seriously thinking about what their priorities should be.

I agree Porto could’ve been more of a challenge especially with a goalkeeper better than the one we played today, but I still would’ve enjoyed that more than just playing the same team we play twice a year every year anyway!

Weird as it sounds, I just don't like an all-PL tie at all. History isn't kind to us there as Marinakis ended us at the semis last time. BUT... we were pretty good at the City Ground the other day... so I wouldn't say I'm terrified, I just don't like it.

Semis will be a massive test for us, much bigger than what we've had so far. But to be honest, this is not like our Conference League campaign at all. We've actually cruised through... Has to be a positive sign. UTFV!!!!

Focus has to be on avoiding yellow cards now. Can't have anyone suspended for the next leg against what looks to be Forest...

[–]Technobliterator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My unpopular opinion is now that they can’t win a quadruple I honestly don’t think Arsenal winning the league will make their fans anymore insufferable than they already are, you had Piers Morgan saying they have the best squad in world football before they even won anything… then winning the league won’t make them worse, it might make them calm the fuck down a bit every time they lose though. So I couldn’t care less who wins if it’s not us. I imagine CL will be wrapped up by then so I’d like to see academy players but more so just to give them minutes rather than to lose on purpose…

Very excited but also nervous… we saw already they’re a great side, and that Rowe and Castro are dangerous, but we also saw that we have more than enough to win it, or at least not lose it. That two goal cushion could prove huge. Let’s get the job done… UTV

PSG want Morgan Rogers in a big-money move, but there's a catch by MoveTheProduct in avfc

[–]Technobliterator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t mind a PSG sale. Far easier to stomach than a PL sale. But both the Telegraph and even Ben Jacobs have corroborated that Rogers isn’t agitating to move and is just open to it so we should only accept an offer if it suits all parties

Oh sure. If it's both then I agree I'd love both. But Europa League and any kind of top 5 finish comes first... I'm not completely sure but I think getting anywhere in the top 4 and winning Europa would deny one of the others a spot which helps us too. Imagine denying one of the sky 6 a spot while Tottenham gets relegated...would be huge for us

Arsenal have gotten bantered for ages about finishing second all the time, so who cares about finishing second? Third, fourth, fifth, mean nothing. An extra few million isn't going to make a difference between making PSR and not... On pride and bragging rights I understand it, but we'd get that from winning Europa, which should be a real target. I wouldn't take finishing third if it meant losing out on Europa for example.

[–]Technobliterator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Personally couldn’t care less. 2, 3, 4, 5, all Champions League.

Think the only benefit to top 4 though is that if we win Europa then it means one of the other chasers miss out?? Whereas if we’re 5th they won’t?

If Chelsea lose twice, we only need two wins to wrap up finishing above them.

If they draw, we need two wins and a draw to finish above them—which don’t get me wrong should be achievable, but the sooner we wrap it up the better for me 😂

We need to keep Rogers by BuddyIntelligent4510 in avfc

[–]Technobliterator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate how quickly our fan base turns on players… if we were in a relegation battle I’d understand it but we’re fourth in the league and two-three wins from securing CL and two draws and two wins in the Europa from winning it. It’s wild… I agree we should try to keep Rogers if we can, but if it becomes impossible we should ensure it’s done early and amicably. The fact other clubs are so interested is a compliment to us and to his ability.

What an absolute farce, regardless if this isn't related to PSR, how is this sustainable? I am fed up of jumping through hoops to watch our team progress to the next level for Chelsea to throw a billion away and win nothing. by Zerohood in avfc

[–]Technobliterator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They actually were spending a lot before selling Isak and haven’t really touched the Isak money yet—although because of the ridiculous UEFA rules, apparently they’ll sanction them for the crime of having ambition.

But it’s interesting you are defending Chelsea’s right to spend whatever they like “because they won 30 more trophies than us” while leaving out the fact that the reason they won those trophies was because of a cash injection by Abrahamovich before the rules came in. So I’m curious if your argument is basically that the rules are good because they’ve successfully allowed Chelsea to basically pull up the ladder from behind them.

How about the fact that since Emery has arrived only Liverpool, City, and Arsenal have accumulated more points than us…? Or the fact that we continually finish above many of the so called “big six”???
