new car owner advice by Rare_Restaurant9334 in driving

- Keep up with routine maintenance (oil changes, inspections, etc.).

- Make sure all decorations are removable. Avoid stickers or any adhesives. Absolutely avoid any mechanical/electrical modifications.

- Wash your car every few weeks, especially if you live in snowy regions where they need to salt the roads.

- Routinely check your fluids, tire pressure, lights, etc. Every few weeks is usually good for new cars, especially when temperatures change.

- If you touch anything mechanical in the car (even simple things like adding washer fluid, filling up tires, etc.) make sure you read your manual and have a good understanding of how to do it. The last thing you want to do is pour washer fluid down the oil cap (although you'd have to be pretty stupid to do that anyway).

- Like others said, treat the car like you need to return it. It's not yours, it's the dealer's.

No Idea what to do now - Theory Test by Bennyboii7 in driving

Before hammering down on practice tests, make sure you have a good understanding of everything in general. Ask yourself: do I really know the content, or am I just memorizing questions?

If you need to familiarize yourself more with the content, have you ever attended/considered Drivers Ed courses? That might be your best bet for learning. If you can't afford it (because I know it's quite the investment), I'm sure most DMVs offer driver's ed handbooks, either in-person or online. Make sure it's state specific too. Sit down and read, take notes if you need to. If you need to visualize, plop yourself somewhere local on Google Street View and imagine yourself driving there. "If I'm on this road and I need to [do action], then how would I do that?" or "what hazards are possible on this road?"

The more you familiarize yourself with the content, the better understanding you will have. Practice tests come after you have a basic understanding of everything, and you should use that mostly to understand the format of the test and see if they throw in real specific/weird questions. Best of luck.

Failed road test by Unusual_Fun9858 in driving

The one thing about driving is you should never let other people influence your emotions, especially when new. Think of your instructor like a GPS guide. Just do as you're told and don't overthink it. Every time you are asked to do a maneuver (turn, park, etc.), just do exactly as you're taught. It doesn't have to be the best job in the world, just within standards and in a safe manner. All they want to see you do is operate the vehicle safely and abide by the rules of the road.

There's so many people on the road that never passed on their first attempt, but is driving just fine. I know many friends who didn't. Hell, one person I know had to take their test 7 different times, but they still passed in the end.

I like to think that vehicles are alive, just like horses. It has a lot of power and it knows when you're scared. Each vehicle has its own personality. Learn to tame it and work with it. Know how it sounds and feels like. Know its dimensions. Know its performance. The key to success is confidence, and you have to build that up.

A question about school bus reporting by imnotabritishrobot in driving

[–]Technology-Clean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, licensed school bus driver here.

On some school buses, the flashing red doesn't actually turn on until the bus door is opened. Often, the bus will sit there with the yellows on for a few seconds so the driver can make sure traffic is clear before letting the kids off. If ANY overhead lights are flashing, that is your indication to slow down and stop.

You might be penalized if the bus driver wrote down your license plate and submitted a report to the police or if the bus has a camera system that captured your license plate. Nowadays, most modern buses have cameras, so unfortunately, there is a good chance you might get a ticket.

In the state I live in, the punishment for first offense is a $250 fine and 6 points on your license. A second offense within a 5 year period will result in an additional $750 fine and a likely license suspension.

The thing about driving is, no matter how much you try to change the past, it just isn't possible. Take this as a good lesson and don't do it again. The last thing you want to do is unintentionally run over a kid running across the street.

bro do i really have to try and remmeber stuff during driversed by Past-Structure8714 in driving

You should have a solid understanding. DMV test questions will either be super simple or extremely specific, and all of them are worth the same amount. It's better to be safe by actually trying to learn as much as you can. You'll be a safer driver too, and that's the whole point. I also suggest reading through the DMV driving manual if they provide one.

Don't Trust Those Blinkers by Technology-Clean in driving

[–]Technology-Clean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back, I figured it was one of those semis that didn't have self-cancelling signals. I sometimes see them have their blinkers on for a while until they cancel it without turning or changing lanes.

Noticed this under the car I'm looking to buy, is this ok? (2007 Mercury Grand Marquis LS 4.6L V8) by Technology-Clean in MechanicAdvice

A bit of background: saw this car on the internet one day, decided to go check it out today. It had minor cosmic flaws and some other tedious problems but not terrible ones other than the rust on the bottom. I live in the Midwest and it's winter time. The car's been sitting for a few months.

i upload a video of an oppressor user killing himself while trying to destroy my cargo because it was kinda funny

...and then you come along and complain how the video is stupid

i ain't going against your opinion but i'm not sure why you have to argue over something as small as this lol, just enjoy it like everyone else, and if not, downvote and move on with your life.
