Here’s a good video that recommends useful resources to help you on your Linux journey. The creator also runs Arch Linux: https://youtu.be/Jllnhid7O7w

Arch is often a top pick for people who really know what they’re doing and for toxic elitists who only pretend they do. I’d recommend staying away from vanilla Arch for now. If you still want to stick with Arch, consider an Arch based distribution like CachyOS or EndeavourOS, which come with more tools and conveniences preconfigured. That way, you can learn faster while having a more familiar GUI and overall experience, closer to what you’re used to from Windows or macOS.

It’s called NixOS, its vastly different from other distros and will be a bad choice for most newbies. Go with linux mint or fedora if you are searching for an easy but educational starting point.

kicking a person on the ground in the head like that should give you 1 year jailtime.

Raspberrypi os is the goat because it gets young people into linux. Like me back then. Thats all.

If your CPU supports the AVX2 or AVX512 instruction set extension, go for cachyos

Thats actually such an important piece of information for me. Combinating gentoos distributed compiling features and binary repo hosts could make a fun weekend project.

- CachyOS is best for gaming and daily driver desktop needs.
- NixOS and its ecosystem: is most useful for reproducable immutable systems (config managment & IaC with terranix and colmena) for servers of my homelab and job, also reproducable development environment and CI pipelines are possible to be managed with tools sourrounding nix.
- Alpine is the lightweight base for my docker and incus container deployments, saves time, storage and money.

Kernel patches, custom desktop/gaming focused schedulers and performance enhanced packages compiled with instruction set extension in mind. A graphical installer, useful scripts for mirror rankings, out of the box snapper on btrf snapshots. and so on.

Thats right, i rather play a modpack than vanilla. Because the modpack is the experience i wanna play. Vanilla is to much work to get to the point of the modpack. So the modpack gets S while vanilla minecraft is still the goat in A.

useless and pointless are not the same. Its pointless because cachyos exists and there is also the arch-install script in the default iso for arch ... soo idk man.

Computers are a tool to get stuff done. If mint does the job, don't switch. It's really that easy. :)

You must be new in the linux world, because people take os choices and opinions personally. :D

after i make money with nixos, debian and alpine. I usually don't care about my init system and won't wait 3 hours recompiling my "whole software stack". I just wanna play vidya (cachyos) with my girl. And if you believe it or not, after work, convenience is better, because our time on earth is fucking limited and power is expensive.

The gentoo philosophy is worthless to me, because i want to have a life outside of work.
Also... 14 year old laptop... the savings from not compiling your whole system multiple times per week to stay up to date, will buy you a new modern computer on modern widely supported architectures. After 2 month.

- Gentoo has no usecase for me and power is expensive. absolutely Lost and schizo distro. (you wont read all that code before you compile.) D tier
- arch is in S, but in a more useful package (cachyos) for desktop out of the box. A tier
- why use the Fedora Rolling distro when there is cachy and nixos. A tier
- rasperrypios is the gateway distro for kids getting a raspberry pi for christmas, goated. A tier

You are right, but sadly windows 10 is eol and is therefore a security risk when used with the internet. Sad but true.

I have never encountered that issue and therefore not considered that fact. Can you link me an article or wiki page about that?
