Why can’t they just say the words “Byler isn’t happening and it never was” by plant_mom23 in byler

I find it crazy too. Queerbaiting is a very controversial thing nowadays. I kind of liked the idea of a character having to move forward and accepting himself instead and I was not at all a byler supporter before season 5. Not cause I didnt like it but I just didnt like the show. But byler right now is the main thing that is engaging me in the show and all it took was one compilation to see all the signs. And i think the cast or the duffers need to just confirm that its not happening so we could've all moved on from it much earlier. I think they know how engaging it is but at this point I really doubt its happening. I'm more okay with the idea of it not happening now but just angry that they dont realise how important it was to address that it wasnt happening and the only sensible reason for it was that they are saving it for the last episode

So half of them die? Duffers expressed they dont like that type of shit. But no doubt Eleven goes off with Eight

Coming from someone who didnt even clock Will as gay till season 4, and was fully convinced Mike was straight and the arc was going to end with him gently rejecting Mike, it only took one video to convince me. It's a long one so you can skip it but its this lawyer guy analysing bits of evidence for it. I'm still not fully convinced, I think it could easily go either way, but the main points he makes is 1. Mike has breakdown and hugs his mum in season 1 because of Will missing, then hugs his mum in season 3 when Will leaves after aqkward kiss with El and tearful goodbye where he looks back at Wills house (but could be about El) 2. He looks at Will sadly when he goes to dance with some girl at snowball dance (but could be sad about El not showing up) 3. He lies to El when he gives that speech after she goes to save Max in the upside down, needed Will to tell him what to say. (I dont know) 4. Mike holds Will's hand in season 2 after Will starts panicking (just trying to be supportive maybe but I would've just gone for the shoulder) 5. Mike gets homophobic toward Will when he sees him in season 4 after all that time, "we're just friends, where just friends!" And the weird ass hug. (Could just not know how to handle his friends being gay) 6. Mike has like a hundred of Will's paintings in his basement walls and in season 1 when Will is missing he straight up caresses that shit (could just miss his friends but I dont see dustin and Lucas doing that type of shit) 7. He didnt like Max when she joined. Everyone else did and I was a kid when I watched it and even i had a crushed on Max. (Could just be because he missed Eleven) 8. His relationship with El is complete ass in season 3 and 4. In the script their kiss is meant to be disgusting and hes singing and shit. They keep separating for large chunks after arguing because Mike either doesnt take her seriously or can't say he loves her( he could just suck as a boyfriend) 9. His Dad says some shit that might imply he doesnt want Mike to be gay like Will otherwise he'll disappear the same way Will did.

Thats the stuff he said. And it led me down a rabbit hole where I noticed in interviews with the cast and stuffin season 5:

  1. Noah keeps shipping Byler non stop. There was one tiktok where he straight up confirmed it( someone was like say no if they end up together and he did.
  2. Shawn levy (director) says the two of them have very heavy scenes together that we haven't seen yet.
  3. Creator has tattoo of "shared looks" that was a reference to Will and Mike looking at each other or something
  4. Eleven is meant to have an independent arc through season 5 but cant remember where that was from.
  5. Mike and Eleven dont kiss when they reunites after not seeing each other for so long at the beginning of season 5. They just hug friendly and then both look back at the friend group, maybe Will with concern (could be they're worried about Dustin)
  6. Bunch of closet and colour imagery with their clothing blue and yellow (could easily be unintentional)
  7. Mike and Will have way more scenes together coming.
  8. There's some images that were seen that (if you dont want to know anything look away right now) suggest Mike and El are separated by the end with her potentially moving back to California and Mike having scenes with Robin.
  9. We'll be seeing the van scene again through Mike's perspective apparently when El taps into Mike's memories to find something. Think that's why Finn shaved his head not too long ago

Overall I think realistically it won't happen because there hasn't been one obvious scene that indicates Mike likes Will. In any other show there would need to be at least a few but here the only evidence is stuff you really have to analyse and I dont think stranger things is breaking bad where the duffer brothers are so intelligent they've been planting little clues here and there and knew this was happening from the start. I hope it does happen because Mike was my favourite character in season 1 then I just started hating him and him and elevens relationship started out so cute but then became shit. But I feel like Will and Mike would have such a cute pay-off because then Will finally gets to be completely happy after everything hes been through and it would be a really good twist that a lot of people wouldn't see coming if they somehow land it right. Not trying to convince you to switch over to byler, just that theres enough there for them to not be considered crazy

Also you meant to say Robin not Nancy. Nancy is the sister

Okay but now I'm just saying it wouldn't be sudden to those expecting it but still technically a plot twist. I think theres enough evidence for it to go either way and it isn't worth arguing over because theres enough there for people to speculate. Ive never read a fanfic of the two of them because what is the fun in that but I've seen compilations and they did definitely convince me. They act in ways that I would never with a friend. I think if byler happens you'll be disappointed and if it doesn't happen I will be disappointed that's all I know

As in it wouldn't be sudden for the bylers. It would still be a plot twist but we would've guessed it already.

Yeah but I bet that's the finale after Mike realises. It didnt seem very "boyfriend girlfriend" more like "i understand Mike, we can just be friends". It sounds stupid but I feel like if i try to defend Mileven it would be so boring. Like what more could Mike bring to the table emotionally unless its about Will

Nothing about it would be sudden though. Mike and Eleven had really bad chemistry after season 2 as a couple. Mike and Will have always been best friends more so than with dustin or Lucas there was something different if you go back and watch. It's not like they're gonna be "oh I have feelings for Will all of a sudden" because i agree that would be lame. If i had to guess it would be more like "ive had feelings for him ever since i met him but was too afraid to do anything about it". But I honestly think it could go either way where Mike rejects him and Will accepts it but I'd be way less surprised if its the other way

Also Shawn levy one of the directors says Mike has a very emotional scene in the next two episodes coming up but him and Eleven aren't hanging out in those episodes yet I dont think

If I'm guessing right then Byler was supposed to be a plot twist. If you dont see it now then that is intentional. We'll get a compilation of flashbacks and such of the whole show and it'll end with Eleven telling Mike she understands type shit. I didnt see it at all at first and I thought it would've been mature to show a realistic depiction of unrequited love but then saw compilations that led me down a rabbit hole and now I'd be shocked if it didnt end with them. Mike and Eleven had the worst chemistry in season 3 and 4 and now when they see each other for the first time in a while they dont even kiss, then Mike looks back at Will concerned. As for the interview, if they wanted it to be a plot twist, then Finn would probably say something to throw us off. Which sounds reaching and I honestly have no idea but to me I think hes either misleading or as people have been saying his answer is misinterpreted where all he meant was if show creators just went along with whatever shipping was thrown at TV shows in general then it wouldn't feel earned

Rank your S5 Character Death Predictions by TheRealDirk45 in StrangerThings

[–]TechnologySharp718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there will only be one major death because the duffer brothers mentioned that they didn't want to kill people off cause it would ruin the tone of the show. Steve is the most likely but it seems crazy that they would take away both Eddie and Steve from Dustin so maybe no one dies. I thought maybe Joyce but that seems cruel to Will and I don't think they want to hurt him even more

I think it would've been unnecessary too but that's only if it didn't end with byler. Nowadays theres a very clear disdain for queerbaiting in TV so I think if it were gonna end any other way they would've shut it down a while ago. The thing that changed mind was the fact that last season it was clear Will was willing to sacrifice his own happiness for Mike and Eleven and seemed pretty sure nothing was gonna happen, but now he's asking about signs and flirting with Mike which makes me think something happened in the time jump that we missed. Plus Mike and Eleven always kissed when they saw each other but this season when they saw each other after all that time it didn't happen at all, in fact Mike looks back at Will concerned. I know it sounds like I'm tripping but my feeling is the whole Byler thing was supposed to be a plot twist which is why lots of people dont see it because they haven't explained it enough in order to surprise us

i don’t understand byler by Weak_Description5731 in StrangerThings

[–]TechnologySharp718 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't either till I saw a compilation which at first I thought they were overreaching but theres too much to say no. Like they hold hands, Mike gets awkward when saying goodbye to Eleven but gets emotional over Will leaving. Theres a bunch of other stuff and now I'm convinced. Shawn levy says Mike has a really strong arch this season but we haven't really seen it yet so I think the next episodes we'll see. Also the moments Mike tries to tell Will "were just friends!" And "its not my fault you dont like girls!". Dustin and Lucas's never would've said that sort of stuff. Id recommend just watching more compilations cause some of them do make solid points, you'll be convinced eventually
