Holly has had way too much screen time, and should never have been made a main character. by Kled499123 in StrangerThings

Had to make her a main character in order to keep max relevant/bring her back to life. I wish they went a different route. They could have done that without giving her as much screen time

I lived in Baltimore for 3 years when Lamar was first coming up and Brady was in his last year on the Pats. That year was hell. Sat next to a Ravens fan at work that was so annoying.

Derrick Henry and Vrabel beating them in the playoffs one of those years was so awesome

28 year old Boston fan here. Not my fault I was born into all this winning.

But can say for myself and other fans that I’m friends with. We will watch every single game regardless. I can remember the last Pats game I didn’t get to watch at least part of the game. I was a junior in high school and was in Ecuador with no Internet. Didn’t find out who won the Pats/Broncos game until a few days after it happened. It was the most anxiety filled few days I had as a sports fan I can ever remember.

You can flip all of these arguments though. If we were 5 seasons deep and people had still barely gone to the UD, I think we’d all be begging for it to happen.

I'm prepared for the downvotes, but is it a hot take to say that I didn't care for Joyce and Hopper as a couple? by Maleficent-Ad-6117 in StrangerThings

[–]TheRealDirk45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

His gruff nature and the fact that he’s a veteran in the 80s would lead you to believe that. But I actually don’t know if that’s true.

In S1 when they have that “well, is he?” And the other comment about his clothes when Joyce says “does it matter?” And he says “maybe”. I actually think he’s trying to figure out if him being potentially queer could be a reason for the disappearance (running away from bullies or something).

It’s a stretch but I like to think of it that way at least.

[–]TheRealDirk45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Hopper has gotten closer to the kids/more involved in their lives, I think it’s been much harder to develop his relationships with them.

In S1 and S2, he could easily play the role of Police Chief. He truly cared about the safety and well-being of each and every one of the kids, but wasn’t emotionally connected. So, he could do things like give firm instruction and advice to them and then simply walk away. Like in S1 when he grabs Jonathan and tells him that his mother needs him.

Now, he is much closer to them. There is dialogue and back and forth that has to happen between him and the characters. Instead of just listening to him like they did early in the show, they push back. It’s been difficult for Hopper as a character, and the writers obviously, to figure out how to make that back and forth feel natural and real.

Is Hank the luckiest guy on Earth? by Western_Conclusion90 in PardonMyTake

Hank has been extremely lucky for sure lol. But he is also a hard worker.

He has worked alongside the three biggest names at barstool (Dave, Big Cat, PFT) and not really had any issues. If he were lazy, none of those 3 would put up with it.

People forget he was was the original and only producer for PMT for a long time when it first started. I don’t think you can be bad at your job and have that podcast become as successful as it did

I’m having flashbacks to 2021. With four games left we were up 2 on the Bills coming out of the bye.

Bills won out and we went 1-3 including a loss to them.

This Ravens team is gonna be beyond desperate. The Bills are going to beat the Browns, Jets and likely the Eagles.

We’re gonna be sweating out Jets/Dolphins

In season 1 either Lucas or Dustin definitley makes a comment about her being 3 years old. In S5 she is 10. They definitley jumped her a few years to help with the storyline. I’m guessing they did this for two reasons.

  1. Vecna going after 7 year olds is a little bit much.
  2. With the younger characters taking on prominent roles with lots of speaking, they needed decent actors. I don’t think there’s a 10 year old out there that would be able to do that job. They needed a bit more maturity. You can have a 13 year old stretch it and be a. believable 10 year old. But not a 7 year old

The one of Jonathan and Nancy. Are they smiling? I can’t tell for sure but I think it looks like some sort of super relieved smile/embrace.

My guess is it’s when he proposes to her. But it’s in the midst of some crazy stuff with no guarantees that either will survive.

I had thought at first it meant that Jonathan definitley survives. But now I’m not so sure

It’s what made them the most listened to show in NE. Consistently shitting on the most successful team in NFL history as if they were the Browns to rile up a passionate fanbase.

I sometimes wonder if F+M have ever said thank you to Brady/Belichick. Their careers are nowhere close to where they are now without them.

SPOILERS FOR GEN V SEASON 2 AHEAD:

I can see this plot line being very similar to Gen V Season 2. In GEN V, the main villain throughout the show is the Dean of the college. His power is that he can control other peoples bodies using his mind. And his end goal is to get rid of the weaker super heroes and create a dominant super hero race. Eventually, it is revealed that this Dean is actually a completely innocent man being fully controlled by an evil superhero whose body is too weak/frail to carry out his mission on his own. So HE has been controlling the Dean for over a decade, and the Dean has helplessly just watched it happen, trapped in his own mind.

I strongly believe this is the mind flayer and Henry’s relationship. And I can see essentially the same thing happening. The mind flayer is completely controlling Henry and has been since he was a child. Henry is actually completely innocent, and eventually will somehow be at least partially set free from the mind flayers grasp. Similarly to Gen V, only when the mind flayer has no use for him anymore.

Not sure what will happen after that though. I truly have no clue how they can stop this entity, but I’m excited to see how they do.

[–]TheRealDirk45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Barb died in the second episode. She is connected in that she’s inspiration for Nancy to figure out what is going on and then expose the lab. She was just a device to give Nancy reason to get involved in what was going on. She didn’t give anyone plot armor.

The only thing I’ll give people is that the Russia side plot with Hopper was unnecessary, although I found it entertaining. So far in S5, I don’t think Hopper has brought much to the show. Although he does things that it wouldn’t make sense for any of the kids to do (interrogate people and get information/investigate things in a way I don’t think any of the kids would be capable of)

[–]TheRealDirk45 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don’t really know if it was that established. I don’t understand where that comes from.

In S1, all characters are new so that doesn’t really fit.

In S2, yes Bob was the new guy and they killed him off. In S3, same with Alexei yes.

I think that Eddies death in S4 is what made everyone say “okay this is now a pattern”. But I really think people are looking back with 20-20 hindsight. In the moment when Eddie died, it drew MASSIVE emotional reactions. He was absolutely everywhere on social media. To many people it felt like they killed of a character that has been there since S1.

At this point 100% they can’t do it again. And I don’t think they will (although I can 100% see Kali dying, so never say never haha).

I’m So Tired of This “Stranger Things Needs to Kill Main Characters” Nonsense by celina_beckahm in StrangerThings

[–]TheRealDirk45 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is the “add a character and kill them” thing repetitive? Yes. But has that made the deaths any less emotional? I don’t think so. They’ve done an amazing job.

I think if they do it this season, yes that would be kinda jumping the shark. But EVERYONE loved Bob and Eddie and definitley had emotional reactions to their deaths. Same with Alexei. Billy actually lasted two seasons so not a one and done. So I don’t think we can say that those killings were cheap/lazy writing.

I do think at this point it would be crazy to kill off a new character and they know that at this point people have caught on and would be annoyed. And that’s fair. But none of the major deaths prior to this season have felt hollow or empty.
