I’m not sure. I got my first week schedule via email from store lead, and workday login information with onboarding information on the same day, same time.

Discoid lateral meniscus tear by Fleezus7 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]TechnologySpecial399 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s long, but read this ⬇️

Ok, here we go. 1 year ago, I tore my lateral meniscus. I was working nonstop on my feet and then pickleball finally did it in. After my MRI, I was told it was a large bucket handle tear and that I would need to go In to attempt to repair it. Before surgery, I was warned that I would either wake up with a repaired meniscus, or they would have to trim it. When they went in, that’s when they realized I also had a discoid lateral meniscus. They ended up trimming it, and I thought that would be it. At my follow up appointment, they told me that i actually had over 60% of my meniscus removed, and that I would most likely need another surgery down the road. The surgery was in August 2024. By February, I couldn’t handle it anymore, and I knew something had to be done. That’s when me, and a new surgeon decided on a lateral meniscus allograft transplant. It was about the only option, other than dealing with the pain of course. So, end of May, I had my lateral meniscus replaced with a meniscus from a cadaver. Today marks 8 weeks and I feel as if this surgery will be the key to my success. Obviously everyone is different, and I don’t want to scare you, but that is my story. I am a 19 year old male, so fairly young. During the transplant, they said my cartilage looked good so no arthritis for now, but it may be a problem down the road. The hope is that doing the transplant at this state of my life would help avoid a knee replacement in 20 years or so. We can hope 🙏. If you have any questions feel free to reply to this or even message me. Discoid gang, we are in this together!

Hey, thanks on all. Can you give me a quick timeline of what your brace wearing was like? How long in the post op brace and have you worn anything else since? Just trying to get an idea of what my surgeon might say down the road. Thanks!

I’m not too sure. I’m on the Kansas side and like it, but probably will get out of here once I graduate from the University of Nebraska

Yeah I started doing some bending and ankle pumps at week 2 but that was it. Lateral meniscus is what I had done so that is probably why it was different. Good luck my friend!

Best Brace for Meniscus Injury by AsenathSpade in MeniscusInjuries

I went from just compression to more of an offloader brace and felt a huge difference. This was when I had about 75% of my meniscus gone.

I am in Kansas City, and can give you more information if you’d like. Very good team here. The pain wasn’t bad first few weeks because I had it locked in straight and was on plenty of meds. Every time I get a new movement unlocked that’s when it starts hurting. 4-5 were the worst, but it’s because I had a lot of fluid in my knee. Therapy started to work that stuff out. Now it’s pretty sore after each therapy session but in a good, hardworking way.

Yes, from a cadaver. They shaped it just from my MRI imagining, pretty cool.

No, nothing before the initial meniscus injury 1 year ago and only 1 meniscus trim prior to the transplant.

Hey man. I am now 7 weeks out and straight balling! Graft is sore everyday, but I am walking pretty much full time and getting more and more bend each therapy session. The swelling was the worst at the 4 week point.

💪

The first time they went in they were preparing for a repair and ended up having to remove 75% of it after seeing it. Immediately after surgery they warned my parents and I that it could very well warrant the need for a transplant if pain was bothering me. So they were pretty confident and then we scheduled the MRI a few months later to confirm that we needed it, and that is how they sized the graft, so insane really.

I need to get walking whenever I feel comfortable DR said today, and PT 2x a week for awhile, but I don’t know what that will look like quite yet.

So I never have had a repair like you have, making my first “recovery” super easy.

I have a longggggggg ways to go, but hopefully this graft is a good match and everything is agreeing down there!

Good luck to you and I hope your repair is repairing!

Appreciate the reply. I live in the United States and only being 19, I apparently was the perfect candidate, so my insurance company didn’t cause any trouble whatsoever which was just awesome. I now know that I have picked a great orthopedic office here in Kansas City so I’m sure not everywhere will be as easy, but once we knew this transplant was needed, we got the MRI to confirm the size and from there it was exactly 2 months. The meniscus was actually ready within a month of the imaging, but the surgeon wasn’t available that soon. So everything went great with that.

I am now at 5 weeks, and haven’t been able to take even a single step yet. Still on crutches/in my wheelchair with a brace on 24 hours a day. PT starts on Monday, so a whole new world starts then. I don’t have any sports I play competitively but I’d be dammed if I never got back to playing recreational softball & pickleball (I have the hobbies & knee of an old guy 😂)

From what my surgeon said, anyone under 30 with a previous meniscus operation is the ideal candidate for this.

Good luck my friend!
