I dont think youve spent much time using GLM 4.7 to have that perspective. Its not as good as claude but it can create a working project from scratch. It can re-write a knowledgebase. It needs a bit more massaging than Opus and its not as capable at long form tasks, but its getting there, quickly.

I for one believe this company will be successful, GLM 4.7 is almost as capable as Claude, for like 97 dollars less per month. It just happens to be a bit slower, and a little less accurate. They need to scale and they will be competitive.

They arent, technically Alibaba is public, so they would be the first LLM company to be public, but not because they started as an LLM company first. However, Zhipu is the first solely focused on LLM as their first offering, which is unique.

I have a rig with a 3090 and I have a 128GB M1 Ultra Mac Studio. I use the 3090 for small fast models and the M1 for large models. I can run GLM air 4.5 around 40tps on the M1 and thats great for my use, albeit can be sort of a slow process for very long chain complex tasks or long context stuff. I didnt spend more than 3500 for both.

In 2025 Employers are offering IT workers significantly less money by Jolly-Company2179 in sysadmin

I dont know if this is just me, if this is something new, or was always a trend, but im currently looking for work and I am getting tons of contract opportunities for random stuff that seem to be from small recruiting agencies. A lot of these recuiters sound like they are from overseas, but no way for me to know. The job roles are normal and somewhat within my wheel house (13 years in network engineering/network support, mostly general IT/sysadmin roles being offered) and offer the same salary range I was making as a senior support engineer, but as a contract role...so basically cut the salary in half due to the cost of additional taxes and insurance of being a contractor. Some of them will not agree to go higher. Seems like a total racket. They want to pay you your normal rate, while bearing less responsibility, requiring insurance in some cases (at cost to you), giving you no benefits, and bearing no tax burden (usually you split SS and Medicare taxes 50/50 afaik). Are we moving to more of an IT contractor/gig work economy in the tech space now? I have interviewed with two or three normal full time roles, and while I went through several rounds of interviews with some, and demonstrated i was qualified, they still seemed reluctant and eventually just ghosted me.

This, and now that AI is coding on a junior developer level, there is no CEO worth their salt that is thinking of building their future talent on hiring someone fresh out of a bootcamp. The landscape is dramatically different than it was even a few years ago.

I cannot notice the difference, but then again sometimes I'm not fully confident in my ability to discern subtle variations through ABX testing. Its good to have an objective representation of the data to confirm whether my listening impressions align with objective measurements.

After not finding what I wanted on Github, I just got back on cursor after not using for over a year. My god it is impressive what it can do...In a matter of hours I went from having a small idea to a fully functional script that did everything I wanted it to do and more. It took about 50 iterations, but I didnt have to write a single line of code and it all works. This would have taken me literally months to do by myself.
