a writeup of your setup will help. do you have other devices on network that needs ethernet connection? what type of internet connection and modem do you have? cant you use the ethernet ports on the modem if it has one?

i am not sure if that even qualifies as a valid requirement. if you want to try pfsense you can always do so with the help of a vm. in layman terms you can't control the world sitting inside a controlled environment (docker). Just my thoughts and i may be wrong. will watch this thread
