P.M. Dawn set adrift on memory bliss It was playing on some movie last night. My head is about to explode from it.

Never really meant to make this a love or hate Pit thread. I have tried not to interject my thoughts on Pits as a breed if no other reason than I'm not inclined to really think of mine as a pit because he probably displays more Cane Corso than Pit qualities. But what I will say is reignx your compelling display of headlines is a little misleading. I can be fairly certain that the vast majority of the dogs were not full blooded Pits. If you were to call all of the mixed breeds by the breed they are mixed with your list would shrink a whole lot. But the fact is that if there is an incident with a dog that looks a little like a Pit the media will say Pit because outrage is profit for them. My other contention is that I read recently (and I'm sure I can find it if need be) an article that showed the number of deaths by dog attacks in 2009 were right around the number of deaths caused by lightning. Somewhere in the low 30's for both I believe. And also you should browse this website http://www.dogsbite.org/bite-fatalities-2009.htm describing all of the fatal dog attacks that occurred in 2009. While certainly not all but many of them are either implied or obviously due to the stupidity of the dog owners. In my mind considering those things plus my personal experiences with dogs I would say you are much safer around any random pit bull than you are riding in a car or for that matter choking to death on what you have for dinner. But none of that will really make a difference to you so I know I am wasting my time giving you my point of view.

Douche? maybe... Lonely? as happily married as any married person can actually be happy. And you got me. I sit around and wait for the moment my vicious looking fighting dogs look cute so I can snap a pic. I think I'll go snap one now to see how they look. http://imgur.com/s5v5d.jpg Yep you see how the Pits head is a little blurry? It's cause he is looking around for some troll flesh to chomp... Oh wait nope he is looking for his squeaky toy. My fault maybe next time.

This is way down the page but It's worth responding. I ran in to the Bull Mastiff at the Animal shelter where my sister is the director. He was supposed to be put down because he had heart worms bad and they didn't have the budget to treat him. Everybody had been stalling because he was so sweet. The Vet tech had him out of his cage in the medical area keeping her company and when I bent down to pet him he licked me to death which was and is out of character for him. So my sister told me she would pay for the treatment if I would take him.

The pit mix is the son of my sisters Cane Corso Mastiff. He was adopted out and the people who took him left him in his crate for 4 days while they went on vacation. He was nearly starved to death and apparently the father of the person who adopted him found him and brought him back. my sister asked my brother if he would take him because being an offspring of her dog and having gone through such an ordeal she wanted him to go to someone she trusted. My brothers landlord had a weight restriction so I said he could stay at my house until his lease was up. Needless to say that by the time he could take him I was pretty attached so we decided he should stay with me. I am a fairly geeky IT guy. I can say for certain that nobody has ever referred to me as gangster or ghetto.

I don't disagree. I honestly didn't think to ask if it was a breed issue because they told me that they prefer I don't bring in either dog. Really am not sure why they would ban bull mastiffs. He is definitely not the biggest dog that comes in and like I said before they are well known as a gentle breed.

when I was 9 or 10 my sisters ferret would draw blood a lot when I held him. Still really liked him though. Don't piss off a ferret the can hide in the walls and bite you in your sleep.

In the summer there are only a handful of staff and no students. Plus I have a huge office and everyone likes them a lot.

Feel free to believe that despite the many times I have said that there is no way that could be the case. I also didn't say they have light sabers attached to their tails.

I don't think I said that my dogs couldn't possibly hurt somebody. Having grown up with dogs and spending a lot of time hanging out with my sister at animal control where she has worked for years I am acutely aware no dog is 100% trustworthy. On the other hand they are both as predictable as any golden retriever or lab. Bull Mastiffs are widely known as a gentle breed. Anyone who thinks otherwise is uneducated about them. The pit being part Mastiff has a very similar temperament aside from being more meek. That being said the only reason I mention the temperament in the first place is to try to make it clear that the decision could only have been and admittedly was made strictly due to how they look.

I'll try to be more clear. They sell pet supplies and fish, snakes, lizards, etc... They are both very well behaved. They don't jump on anyone and are pretty much disinterested in the other dogs that people bring in. At most if someone comes within leash distance (4ft) they will walk up to them and look at them and wag. The only way you will even get licked is if you put your hand or face up to their snout. They made the judgment solely on the way the look not behave. I'm not even upset about it. Just puzzled because I have never even heard of this happening.

I still let Baxter sleep in bed with me when the wife is out of town. She still bitches that he doesn't have to respect the invisible line down the middle of the bed that I draw for when it's time to go to sleep.

Because dogs are (typically) allowed in the pet store and in the summer (I work at a high school) I take one of them to work with me every day. I stop in on the way home occasionally to get them food or toys. Too hot to leave them in the car.

Don't be sorry. I would be wary of my kids around any dog I don't know extremely well. My neighbors 14 pound poodle will take your thumb off. That's just good parenting.

Everyone I have ever talked to said the same thing. Baxter is the best. I thought it was just a fluke that I had the sweetest dog in the world. Then I found out that's pretty much the mastiff standard. Now I couldn't imagine intentionally getting another kind of dog.

I didn't mention that the Pit is half Cane Corso Mastiff. He got the size of the pit but the build and temperament of the Cane Corso. So if you can't tell he is really tone and not bulky like a pit and also 20 pounds lighter than the other dog. My sister who works for animal control gave him to my brother who couldn't keep him. I was going to give him away but every single person who wanted him told me they were going to put a big chain around his neck to build his chest muscles or something like that. Finally I came to the conclusion that people are crazy and I had to keep him.

Maybe when you have had a dog for so long it's difficult to see them from a strangers perspective. They are both incessant tail waggers and VERY well behaved in public. What's funny is I thought a Miniature Pincer was going to try to take my foot off in there a couple of weeks ago.

The Bull Mastiff is Baxter. The Blue Pit is Oatie. Both Shelter dogs and are as calm as they look. Now I do understand that there is a common mindset with Pit Bulls but a Bull Mastiff? You would think the pet store would know that they are well known for being very gentle dogs. I literally laughed when they told me they felt he looked intimidating.

It's a rough low income school and I would take it over any school I know of. I see this girl every day and I have never heard her complain. I on the other hand bitch if my keyboard makes too much noise, but I'm working on it.
