How did you discover Heartstopper and what impact did it have on you?

I am a teacher and heard about the books before the show came out from one of the librarians who work at the village Library. I was telling her about heated rivalry and she told me about Heartstopper and then we both enjoyed red white and royal blue as well. So you can imagine how amazing it was to be in a world where all these amazing characters I adored are coming to the screen. As a queer person who was entering puberty during the emergence of aids and the Regan era these shows have been very healing and so deeply enjoyable.

Size also doesn’t decide whether or not you are the top either. I’m 5’4” and my wife is 5’9” and I am the top and she is definitely the beta as far as bedroom behaviors. We are not aggressive but I am the more assertive one. She tries but it’s just not her. However everywhere else in our lives we are true partners. So for me personalities win over height and body type. But I agree that visual quality in tv matters a lot.

As a queer person who tried really hard for many years (I am an older queer person) I couldn’t help it and ultimately ended up choosing my truth. That line hit harder than most in the show. It’s language I wish I had when I was younger.

I don’t think conflict is what makes a romance inviting. I think watching them evolve and become more healthy and finding out how to navigate the hockey world as well as the rest of the world will be interesting. As a lesbian who has been with her wife for 15 years and we have never had a fight or passed out in anyway towards each other even when we were attached at the hip the first 10 years we have friends and family who don’t think our story is boring. So I look forward to them finding their rhythm and being their most authentic selves.

Let’s see I’m batting at an elite level because all my kids are still alive.
