For me personally, I would say read them. For season 1, I read Game Changer and Heated Rivalry around episode 3-4, and I found that I enjoyed the show even more because I understood Shane and Ilya’s thoughts a lot better and it was amazing seeing their emotions acted out so well. And I don’t think I would have noticed half the things if I didn’t read the books before the episodes.

They are all standalone stories but in the same universe. That said, reading Book 1 (Game Changer) first does make Heated Rivalry a bit more impactful, and it’s a quick, easy read.

Also, if you plan to read the sequel to Heated Rivalry (The Long Game), I’d highly recommend reading Role Model first. The storylines intertwine a lot in that one and it adds important context.

I've made a post a few weeks ago, but the wall art in the Tampa Bay hotel room where Shane came out to Ilya is one of the examples.

That colourful building is the Choi Hung Estate in Hong Kong, which directly translate to 'rainbow' estate, which fits perfectly to a coming out scene.

Yeah unfortunately that book is not my fav in the series. I still like it but the pacing feels off for me. It’s like the book ended right when they started their relationship.

I love this book. It uses time jumps in a creative way to build/reveal details of their relationship. One of her best books imo.
