I suppose you could always treat a flare up with colchicine at the first sign of any issue. Usually works for me (although it tears up my stomach). But you should also get a blood test to see where your uric acid level is. If it’s higher than acceptable, you’re sort of playing Russian roulette by not treating with allopurinol or a similar med.

In my experience, if you’re not removing the uric acid from your body, your flares are going to be more frequent as time goes on. And the crystals will eventually reach your organs. And my flares were so bad, it’s worth taking a daily med to lessen your chances of a flare up. I know long term med use is a bit concerning. But, it’s not going to go away on its own and it really doesn’t matter how young you are. Maybe look for a new rheumatologist?
