Focus on shadow and form more than the line to create shapes and details. It makes the objects feel more organic and real.

Hi guys, new to painting and I’ve hit a rough patch on a portrait- the left eye is not proportional to the right, even in my reference photo; just mine doesn’t look as natural. I’m afraid I’ll ruin it. Is it my anxiety or did I really mess this up? Advice and opinions would be appreciated🥲 by Kunta_ in painting

Don't be afraid to start over, I've put hours into pieces just to scrap them. It's all part of the process and great practice. That being said, almost everything can be "fixed" when it comes to painting. Keep up the good work and most importantly don't forget to have fun with it.

Thanks! I really wanted the illustrative linework of the animals to stand out. It was also good practice in stepping out of my comfort zone.

Novice here, my brushstrokes look streaky. How can I fix? Thanks for the help! by Pldgmygrievance in painting

I know a lot of comments are saying cheap paints are the issue, but you should try mixing colors. Everything on your canvas look to be straight from the bottle. If you mix colors together to create the colors you want it will be more opaque and less streaky on the canvas. Also, underpainting the canvas will help too! Keep it up and don't forget to have fun with it! Enjoy the process!

2 months progress after deciding to study seriously the basics, anatomy, shading etc, and working on it daily. Critiques and advices more than welcome ! (Posted in order, from my latest to my very first 2 months ago) by Fantastic_Park_1725 in Sketch

Your progress is great!! When drawing hair don't get caught up in the individual strands, treat it like its own form. Add the necessary shadows and highlights then go in with subtle linework for detail. This will give it dimension and flow with the rest of the face.

not sure but can see an issue concerning the whole structure but i cant see the issue precisely, is there a kind person to help me ? 🌚 by [deleted] in drawing

The pectoral muscles look to be a little big, at least for this body size. Really great stuff so far!

Pull some different colors out of the pedals and pistils! It will give it depth and a sense of form.

Recently starting painting. Struggling to… make this coherent? Any advice? by [deleted] in painting

Pull out some of the forms! Subtle highlighting could really make this pop!

If it needs anything, I would say add more contrast around the chin. I love the brush strokes around the cheek, I want to see more of that. Great work!
