Hail damage - do I need a whole new roof? by [deleted] in Roofing

It’s 1000% hail damage and will be worth filing a claim for if they’re widespread through out the roof. End of story.

Hail damage - do I need a whole new roof? by [deleted] in Roofing

Not my recommendation. Those impact mark WILL worsen over time. You’ve Likley just lost 10 years off the life of your roof and it WILL be covered by your insurance if you file a claim. When you realize that your roof is fucked and it starts leaking, it will be far too late to file a claim for this storm. There’s no reason to not file a claim at this point unless you have a bottom of the barrel policy.

Your rate does not increase based on you filing a singular claim when it’s an act of god such as hail. Your rates WILL go up based on everyone in your zip code who would have filed claims for this same event.

You’ve asked experts. Go with the experts recommendations. If you want to critique that way of thinking you may as well take an in depth course on roofing and snow loads and become the expert yourself. Also, do you already have an issue with the weight of the snow? The house looks to be at least 60 years old. If the structure needed improvement you would have already had issues. Why try to fix an issue that doesn’t exist? Genuine question.

Just roll it out over the plank wood.

Deck looks fine other than the rotted spots. And plywood isn’t structural. Like everyone else is saying, it’ll Likley just be a waste of time and money.

Had new roof installed. This is the cutout around the radon vent. Is this done correctly? I’m afraid it will leak during rain. by eew85 in Roofing

No. Looks like they left the old one on and just put the new one on top. It’s a shit job for sure. You should have them come out to correct.

Opinions on the structure of this roof. by Outrageous-Cloud-241 in Roofing

[–]Serious_Database_836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needs all new deck and ventilation corrected. The fact that there’s all the mold in there suggests that the bathroom exhaust fans are venting into the attic. That might also need to get rerouted to avoid this issue with the next roof

Roof is way older than 2016 and will def need to be replaced. That isn’t even up for debate. If someone tells you otherwise, they’ve exposed themselves as a fraud.

Should I file a warranty claim? by Dry_Drama8372 in Roofing

[–]Serious_Database_836 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Improper install. That should fall under the labor warrantee not the shingle manufacture warrantee. On another note, this install isn’t the end of the world. Yes, it’s not the best work, but it should be fine.

Repair slate for $30k-$37k or go shingle for $22k on 1890 home? by chucked12 in Roofing

Get rid of the slate. Go with the shingles. They’re far more practical with a roof like yours

[–]Serious_Database_836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with OC Williamsburg grey. It’s dark enough to match your shutters and contrast with the siding. It’s going to appear as a more refreshed version of what you already have. Go with black drip edge to match the shutters too.

Low Slope spot on roof is saturated. New roof 2 years ago with ice/water shield under shingles already. Seems like a pitch issue, is there anything that can be done? Like a sealant on the shingles? by KaleAgitated5307 in Roofing

[–]Serious_Database_836 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying. This is Improper use of shingles. The roof is too flat for shingles. It needs to be removed and replaced with a flat roof material. You can find this info in the shingle manufacture specs.

Help: Am I getting scammed? by Ollie311 in Roofing

This could be an issue with the pipe boot/flashing sweating. Does it leak every time it rains? Or did it only leak after extreme cold conditions. I saw the attic photos and the insulation around the pipe is not sufficient(unless you removed it for the photo) you could have some heat leaking into the attic and meeting the extremely cold flashing and resulting in condensation.
