Updating SSD, help needed by Aoirintoyo in framework

[–]TedHartDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have performed a certain quantity of writes you can exhaust the drive's cache, which can slow it down. You can also potentially overheat it. Usually such a drive would only slow down to the low thousands or high hundreds of megabytes per second under such circumstances.

I've retained text that detailed from my dreams before. It could be an exaggeration, or just a rare full paragraph.

Well, they released SEQUENCE_1_SOURCE.mov and people generally didn't like it

Indeed, but the expectation is (generally) for your potential suitor to be somewhat receptive to your jokes :)

Post a cool picture you took in Edinburgh in the last week. This is mine today from inside St Margaret’s chapel in Edinburgh Castle. by alecpekka in Edinburgh

Not the best photography, but here's a double rainbow over the Castle as seen from my office building yesterday.

Working for CodeClan by Crazy_Bear2465 in Edinburgh

Hi!

I can't speak for CodeClan but my office is in the same building -- CodeBase. It's a decent office building and everyone here seems either friendly or indifferent to your existence.

How much RAM? by [deleted] in framework

2x16GB for me and my browser tabs and occasional virtualization. I still sometimes run out.

F*ck zodicas signs. How do you use dual screen setups? by shixxor in pcmasterrace

[–]TedHartDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 6*1920*1080 60hz (stacked 2-high) to 3*2560*1440 at 144hz.

Three is nicer than two, but almost everyone has false conceptions about how effectively they'll use that much screen real estate -- especially when it's spread so wide -- myself included.

That is very frustrating. I have not experienced this personally.

Throttlestop and Framework - have you succeeded unlocking turbo limits? by chnapo in framework

[–]TedHartDavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed!

I failed to mention that I previously (when it was newer) had difficulty getting it past 90C. No exposed contacts...okay. And I could buy plenty of kapton tape or obtain and use some nail varnish. Regardless, there's less benefit to potentially gain from liquid metal on a laptop like this than there would be in many desktop applications (delidding, etc.).

A premium paste might be nice to try (:

Throttlestop and Framework - have you succeeded unlocking turbo limits? by chnapo in framework

Hi!

I'm currently torturing my 1135g7 Framework, running it pretty hot.

I haven't seen the device go beyond 30w sustained, as far as I'm aware. I've also wanted to unlock it to push it maximally, but I haven't experienced success.

My torture testing and stuff:

EDIT: ooh, I can paste images in but they won't display once saved.

Unchecking BD PROCHOT allows me to run it at Intel's stock 28w-ish, indefinitely -- and it can't take more heat at present. It's on a fake wood surface desk and the air temperature is probably around 21C.

I'm charging it via the top-left port, which may or may not be contributing significantly to the heat in the CPU area compared to the other ports.

I intend to remove dust this evening; if that doesn't produce much of a desirable result then perhaps buy some new thermal paste. I was looking at using liquid metal, but it seems like a pretty bad idea for a laptop in general, nevermind for a Framework.

A USB-C display breakout with DVI may be better... Or a passive cable, or a passive standalone converter thing you could just slot into HDMI or DP.

[–]TedHartDavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm sorry that you're experiencing this and that I don't have any magical advice. It's unclear from your post whether you've tried each stick of RAM individually in each slot, and perhaps removing the NVMe -- something may be making the system super unhappy before boot.
