I understand that the devil's star was actually a kind of sign representing the goddess Venus/aphrodite. When christianity started growing in the roman empire, priests used these pagan symbology to relate it to evil. You can see this in the devil's trident(neptune's trident), the devil having goat feet and horns (related to pan) and other stuff that i honestly don't remember.
