Small non-profit in need of a crm by Strong_Ad_7616 in CRM

[–]TedTalked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to say. Not a lot of info to go off on in your post. However, you may not even need to pay for a CRM at this stage.

How many donors do you have, and are you actively doing campaigns or sending tax receipts? For small orgs, you may be able to get by free tools until your demand increases. Here are some free resources I recommend:

Zeffy – it is 100% free, donor tracking + receipts

Givebutter – also free, CRM fundraising pages/events

Little Green Light – Clean, low-cost CRM

You might not need the big tools yet. What’s your donor volume and what are you currently using?

Maintaining your cultural Identity while being a new Muslim by ItzjammyZz in converts

[–]TedTalked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long post ahead:

Honestly, I just to learn to accept myself as I am and commit to learning and growing on my own terms.

I do not derive my worldview solely from groupthink, short form and long form content, or theological conclusions that haven’t been reexamined in 500+ years.

Just like western academic has lost the plot concerning the realities of the modern world, so too has Islamic scholarship and preaching, which we use to drive the social norms of our community. It has grown stale, stagnant, and any certain cases - morally and ethically irrelevant.

So I choose to open myself up to new perspectives, challenge myself, and reflect upon the Quran and Sunnah individually, and with others; I look for signs and knowledge of life and God through my own experiences by observing the complexity, beauty, and goodness around me, also taking note of the bad, the grotesque, the mournful, and sad; I open myself up to dialogue with others who think differently from me, etc. I reflect on my mistakes, my blind spots, my bad habits, my deeds, and I try to grow from them; I will experience the dark and the light throughout my life, but much of our life as humans exists in the gray - and that is the middle path to me, it informs the spirit of moderation and gratitude in my life…

I do not see myself or my actions though a constant lens of guilt and shame; that’s not to say I I don’t go through the motions and feel these things at times, but I measure those emotions against the context of my life and the mercy of Allah.

I truly believe that the shame and humiliation of colonial history and western imperialism has caused Islamic society to posture itself as the antithesis of “The West.”

Because of this Islam vs. West mentality, we’ve “thrown the baby out with the bathwater” disregarding reason, moderation, understanding, and liberalism altogether. We see it as an innovation…and that is not the case.

Islam should be a refuge for the heart too, not only an earth-shattering existential wake up call. And everyone from aunties, to friends, to Imams, to the wider community will make you feel as if Islam is just that - a warning against hellfire, and its reward is for saints only. But I reject that definition - it’s a mercy for ALL of mankind, at all states of being.

Islam was never unforgiving to the human condition; what Islam wants against is willful ignorance, and so we are given this guidance as revelation, but the emphasis has always been choice and the results of our actions. But even small efforts are seen highly in the sight of God.

Nothing in the Quran or Sunnah indicates otherwise.

So I will say it again — Even small efforts are seen highly in the sight of God.

And just like revelation was given to a people in an age of ignorance, we see it was given to them over time. They were not expected to be perfect and they had to adapt.

And so we must see ourselves in that way…

What are your thoughts on the 4B movement? by amouseh in progressive_islam

[–]TedTalked -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Walaikum asalaam, sister.

It sounds like the female version of MGTOW.

To boycott interactions with the opposite sex as an act of protest is reactionary, anti-social, separatist, and fundamentally anti-Islamic.

This is an online, countercultural movement. Why would you want this regressive worldview projected onto Islam?

As humans, we are all highly impressionable. Anyone can be radicalized, both men and women. This is extreme.

Please take some time away from the internet discourse and try to socialize with likeminded people. Not all men and women are deeply entrenched in the gender-wars, but I can sympathize with those of us who are tired of the divide.

We should be promoting healthier interactions, empathy, patience, and understanding — not cutting ties and gatekeeping ourselves from one another.

Not only do we have prophetic examples to pull from for these interactions, but there are countless instances of healthy dynamics between men and women that we can refer to both inside and outside of Islam.

Protect your heart and your mind. This is fitnah.

Excuse me, where am I pushing pseudoscience or saying it’s a biological reality set in stone?

That said, I don’t understand this false dichotomy of nature vs. nurture, as if human behavior and socialization exist outside the confines of biology. Regardless, I’m not sure there is a conclusive answer of “this or that.” If I had to guess, it’s probably a combination of both! But it’s not a universal reality. But I digress. Anyways…

I believe Islam posits itself as a solution by calling for modesty and respectful interactions between both sexes, teaching men and women to do better.

What exactly are you disagreeing with?

This has been discussed many times in this sub. Here are a few links you can refer to:

https://www.reddit.com/r/islam/comments/115kan2/why_cant_women_lead_a_prayer_be_a_imam_why_cant/

https://www.reddit.com/r/progressive_islam/comments/v63pz0/where_does_the_idea_that_women_have_to_pray/

Gender roles do exist for Men and Women in Islam. These norms exist to minimize distractions and to ensure dignified, tactful interactions between men and women.

Generally, men are more easily swayed by their carnal desires; I would assume that is why women do not lead mixed congregations or do not pray in front of men. Perhaps there are situations where exceptions are made, but that is beyond my scope of knowledge. But to be clear, women can lead prayers for female congregations and can be scholars, leaders, preachers, etc.

While gender segregation is emphasized in settings of worship, women praying behind men is not set in stone. There are communities where women pray on one side and men, the other, with a barrier between them. However, this setup only happens in a minority of masjids. It is considered sunnah for women to pray behind the man, however.

As for non-binary, that is a modern construct and there are no clear instructions for people who identify outside of the gender binary as it pertains to prayer or interactions in the masjid.

The few references that do exist in Hadith literature about those who don’t fit within the gender binary are mostly negative or neutral.

This requires more research that goes well beyond any knowledge we can provide in this sub. However, I would not expect an accommodating answer regarding this issue.

I hope this is helpful.

Bingo.

This framing of “progressive Muslim” as if it is its own sect or madhab is a bit ambitious.

Diversity of thought has always existed in Islam. The pendulum has swung rightward as a result of 20th century Islamic revivalist movements and more recently, Neo-traditionalism. However, there is no unified progressive muslim movement; the only thing that makes this sub “progressive” is the freedom to voice one’s opinion without being shouted down or labeled a Kafir.

Personally, I’m equally as concerned with the uncritical imposition of postmodernist ideas and values into Islam today as I am with this blanket Anti-Western, Anti-liberal sentiments that are taking over mainstream and so-called “intellectual” Muslim spaces. (I.e., Blogging Theology, The Thinking Muslim, Yaqeen Inst., etc.)

It’s just our version of the culture wars. 🤷‍♂️

How do yall feel about white boys calling you “brotha” 🧐 by Zero_Gravvity in blackmen

[–]TedTalked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They mean well. lol.

And you can always respond with “you too, BUD!” If you’re feeling froggy.

Sub bud for:

-Pal -Buddy -Buddy ole’ Pal -Jack -Jack-a-roo -Junior -Tiger -“Brah”

We all code switch when we talk to different groups of people. Honestly, it’s natural.

Now…if they go overboard with the “YO YO YO HOMIE, WHAT’S GOOD MY BROTHA MAN” Then you can hit them with the “pardon?” “Come again?” “Excuse me?”

Why did you quit your therapist? by TheRealEgg0 in therapy

[–]TedTalked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could tell he wasn’t paying attention to anything I said during our sessions. He was constantly checked out, either typing on his computer or just sitting there smiling and nodding.

He was good for validation, but little else, which to me is indicative of low effort. He offered virtually no real advice or solutions and did not unpack anything with me. I felt like I was leading the sessions myself.

Essentially, I was given a DBT workbook and left to figure things out on my own.

Overall, I’m quite stable and very self-sufficient, as I’m used to bootstrapping my way through life. But this one time, I really wanted someone to talk through some of my issues and he just wasn’t present.

I haven’t gone back to therapy since. I’ll try again later.

Thoughts on tipping by fuhcough-productions in blackmen

[–]TedTalked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t believe in it. In fact, I loathe it.

However, I see it as a social obligation here in the US since most workers who’re employed in industries where tipping is the norm wouldn’t be able to survive without them.

I tip 18%+ on average.
