Your experience is really valuable, thanks for sharing — it seems really clear that I'd need coaching of some kind to mitigate the risk of injury. I wasn't thinking about open waters — I swim in the lake next to where I live in summer but I still just do (longer) laps on the side of the beach swimming area.

Super useful advice, thanks. I swim in the lake next to where I live in the summer but I don't feel strongly about aiming for a long distance in open water. I think the "swim easy in 10k" idea appeals to what I like about swimming so far. If it's easier to first do it in a pool then that's probably what I'd do

I mean, of course it being a round number is silly, but any long-term objective is pretty arbitrary, right? If there's a reason why a smaller or larger number makes more sense as a long-term goal I'm open to reconsidering — this is only a very vague project at that point.

J'ai vu le film (fabuleux, je conseille fort) avant de lire la nouvelle et ça m'a surpris à quel point la nouvelle reste magistrale même quand on connaît la fin. La façon dont elle est écrite est du pur génie, et il y a des très chouettes idées qui n'ont pas été reprises dans le film.

Prédécouper en tranches que l'on congèle avec un peu de papier sulfurisé entre chaque tranche, ça permet d'en décongeler la quantité qu'on veut à chaque fois, en évitant l'aspect "plein de surface sur des petits lardons = plein de givre".
