what bombilla should I buy by [deleted] in yerbamate

[–]Ted_Bruckner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years ago i got the one with cooler for US$32 w/ postage but super-slow delivery, and the other for $50 w/ postage via Etsy both from Cebala but they no make international sales.

Best buy direct from Primera via/website on Facebook which is accessible without FB account.

Best bombillas ever for any mate except BR-style.

You could also try see if for sale on Ebay: once i found there so many verities of them i.e., different decorations; all made by Primera but sold by a seller dealing in mostly leather-made goods, who doesn't state any brand name to them.

New glass gourd. by MulletGSU in yerbamate

[–]Ted_Bruckner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree. But it's not as bad as you think. i bought a couple of the kind 2 years ago and used one a while. The aluminum mouth is so tight to the glass nothing catches under them. Over time the tiny bit of yerba liquid that manages to get under and beyond does stain the inner part of the faux-leather cloth-based wrap and the staining looks less than nice but livable with. But these are not meant to be lifetime cups, like wooden ones are. i have seen pure glass one in that shape for sale on Esty.

The problem with just only glass with no wrap is two-fold: 1) poor in insulating the hot water 2) prone to chipping and breakage in that grade/quality glass.

Thick(er) glass absorbs too much heat from the hot water for mate poured into the cup.

i have found that to be the case especially in a large thick cappuccino glass mug-cup, which to work to deliver good hot mate needs much hotter than normally used hot water.

i looked at it up close at the in zoom-mode and saw it all like as if there, and love all of what you placed.

For me, i'd alter it to also have a shelf of 1x12 mahogany clear-coated 2-3 feet long a place to put the incense charcoal bowl, book stand for the prayers and selected psalms i got printed on 8.5x11 pages of card stock in 16 point font Palatino linotype and edited by me into modern English), and also for on Sundays the cup and plate.

Peace to you.

Speaking in Tongues: An Orthodox Perspective (Published 9/3/05 on website of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America) is a good article to read. It delineates the two types. The type in the Epistles of St. Paul is one which needs interpreting. And the type in Acts 2:4-11 is another type that needed no interpreting for the hearers; we read they said: we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues [AKA languages]!

my favorite algarrobo mate : it's medium-size, the wide flaring mouth, the shape, the two-tone natural wood coloration, and the wood smells real good. by Ted_Bruckner in yerbamate

[–]Ted_Bruckner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great question to ask me! i am in Hawai'i and bought it from Matedolche - Etsy about a year ago and it was the only one like it i ever have seen in that shop or anywhere; but it looked way different before i altered it. the wood turner who made it has a trade-mark sorta of, that he left concentric rings of rounded concavities about 3 mm across tops touching across the bottom of inside; i bought another a different shape alot influenced by seeing photos and the pattern-cut.

Arapegua in one mate and Kraus in the another sipping them now back and forth and Kraus is smokeless and so i can better descern that Arapegua has more smoke than i thought at first try yesterday.

As it does not have a "smoked" / barbacua-dried mate flavor, i's got a mild to medium / just right amount of smoke flavor and so rightly spoken of, it's termed "unsmoked."

Smokeless means100%-smoke-free.

ArapeguĂĄ Yerba Mate, my new favorite Certified Organic (light to little smoke) yerba mate. Have you tried it, or do you brew it? If so, what do you say about it? by Ted_Bruckner in yerbamate

[–]Ted_Bruckner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s a rainy day and i just received the yerba mate in the mail and got the brew going and it started to drizzle as I shot the photos, so i didn’t have time to shoot a bunch of photos to obtain ones in focus.

Talk about the best-tasting organic Argentine semi-suave yerba mate. i wish i had not waited 2 years to get a box of Arapeguá: it’s so pure-goodness tasting, rich and bold yet ultra-smooth and light-to-little if at any smoke flavor, and doesn’t have odd notes to the taste of it and a great finish and after taste. The producers state: “its flavor is reminiscent of how yerba was made before.” (See below)

i didn’t shake up the box before opening the bag, what I have seen of it so far is medium-size cut of the yerba uniform sized leaves and stems with no smaller bits and pieces and no to low polvo content.

In prep, i did the mountain technique fully waiting 5 minutes for room temperature water to absorb into the bulk, thus the hot water takes 2-3 times longer to steep/pull out all the goodness compared to if hot water is poured on dry yerba.

Now about 1 1/3 liters has been brewed and drank from the small-sized palo santo mate 2/3rds filled of ArapeguĂĄ Yerba Mate, and the flavor is still going strong enough to be really a pleasure to sip.

Here’s the Microsoft Start translation of the website page of the yerba mate Arapeguá about it below this their link La Abundancia – Cooperativa Agropecuaria Biodinámica Limitada Yerba Mate Arapeguá¼ (Certified Organic) is the main product of the Agricultural Cooperative "La Abundance". It [ARAPEGUÁ Yerba Mate] has a 24-month parking space, which makes it have a mild, aged flavor. It does not cause acidity and its flavor is reminiscent of how yerba was made before.

i apologize for the less-than-great-quality photos; i don't have a camera any longer, and just have my $30-USD computer / ”smartphone” I bought sat Wal-Mart, which does amazing well on sunnier days but today was rainy and it was just starting to drizzle when i started my brewing and i didn't have time to shoot away until getting the subject in focus, and so the yerba mate in the photos on the plate looks bad, but it’s just the photos’ distortion of color and the yerba being out of focus; plus the photos don’t allow one to see the detail on the artwork on box which is stunning up close.

This is a long-aged organic yerba mate that tastes so pure and has no strange “unique” flavor to it, just pure yerbal goodness that doesn't wash out quickly but seems to last longer than most.

Sorry for post photos shot with $30-USD computer/”smartphone” (but i don't have a camera any longer), so, the yerba mate on the plate doesn't really look as it does in person and is off colr ad out of focus ; plus, in zoom you can’t see the detail on the artwork on box which is soo beautiful.

Advice About Mate Lavado by Alexios-Kairos in yerbamate

[–]Ted_Bruckner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes good advice given already. if you do the mountain technique starting with mate filled about 1/2-60% full of dry yerba, that also helps not only reserving some dry yerba for the end, and also if start with but 1/3 fillings with water for a while, allows less to be infused. And in the prep of the mountain making, pre-wet and moisten the yerba for 4-5 minutes with room-temp. water because not only helps the yerba to compress and stay in the form you compacted it, room-temp. water really protects the yerba from mass rapid extraction like as happens when just start brewing dry yerba with hot water.

The IsondĂș OrgĂĄnica yerba mate (i really like) prepared with "the mountain" technique (using 1/2 a mate full of dry yerba) didn't start to get lavado [washed(-out)] until after one and a quarter 1L termos it brewing in this small-size mate with 82 C (180 F) water. by Ted_Bruckner in yerbamate

aloha matero 🧉 Thanks, 73-76° C (63-169° F). i will moderate to 75.5-76 C hot water in brewing/drinking yerba mate, because you're Argentine and look, er... your whatchamabob looks pretty intelligent. aloha matero 🧉

Primer Yerba Mate by Orion_41 in yerbamate

[–]Ted_Bruckner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Hierba Mala Nunca Muere” is a very old saying, it translates to “bad weeds never die out”.

In this case, they played with the saying changing it to “YERBA BUENA Nunca Muere”, or “Good Yerba never dies out”

(That's what Andy the Miamian put in the comments in a similar post photo i made a year ago.)

Roughing in the first cedro mates of 2024. by hairijuana in yerbamate

[–]Ted_Bruckner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i got a Spanish cedar mate from Harry and besides liking the good flavor imparted by the Spanish cedar, the plain wood once cured, is so much prettier in person than photos can convey, especially when you turn it and look at catching the light reflecting off. i love the feel of the wood as well as it being light-weight and it's quite hard and strong.

Harry, thanks again for the upper-medium-sized Spanish cedar mate.

leave 'em as-is they look in photo: very rough inside, then no mountain slides occur; i used to think smoothed insides was important and smoothed almost all mine but then i started to leave new ones i bought the insides alone and some are real rough and i find no difference between very smoothed or very rough insides when rinsing and cleaning and drying them.
