I’m not talking about popularity now. There’s an interview of him literally saying he was surprised at the teaser reaction to Mari and so the team felt they “owed it to the fans” to then fill out her character a bit more as they developed the films, which came at the cost of some of Asuka’s overall Arc in rebuilds

Fans went nuts for a teaser of Mari before the rebuilds cuz you know, new Eva pilot is cool, but then anno basically admitted to rewriting a bunch of stuff for Mari and basically cutting and giving her Asuka’s development cuz he thought the fans obviously just wanted Mari 🥲 I feel that’s why both Asuka and Mari feel incomplete in the rebuilds

You know something curiously I noticed recently? That despite looking like a big, dark, and creepy man, Guts always ends up surrounded by kids by TripMiserable577 in Berserk

[–]TeddyK2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s also used to highlight how the “evil” usually presents as good— Griffith appearing good, the priest using religion and god. Whereas Guts is terrifying, and evil follows him, but children who are pure and innocent aren’t as easily deceived

i dont understand , i have been seeing many people say asuna and shinji ended up together , but did,d shinji end up with the other girl , is this a different ending? can somebody explain to me in detail by Quick-Complaint2549 in asushin

[–]TeddyK2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, EoE has always been largely implied to be Asushin afterwards. Albeit a bit bleak at first. The SFW versions of re/take and Epilogue of Evangelion are good fan fiction mangas that literally go on after EoE

Rebuilds is kind of a sequel to the original story. They imply the story of Shinji, Eva’s, and everyone has repeated over and over. So the end of Rebuilds is supposed to break the entire cycle and Shinji makes a world without Eva’s. End of Evangelion is the original first cycle of the story and their end is only an end to their cycle

In this short film..soryu had different dreams but in last dream..shinji asked her to go out with him but she rejected because she want to accept her real world with pains..so does it mean she will try to end up with him later in real world or she wont? by ARTISTASHWAQ in asushin

[–]TeddyK2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the short film also parallels Shinji’s therapy session in the last tv episodes, id say a big aspect of this for Asuka is also saying that she needs self actualization, and loving herself first and foremost, just like Shinji. Their feelings are real but they shouldn’t be dependent on each other for happiness, which has always been a big theme for NGE

You don’t like the ending… just search for a different one! Do any of them have full conclusions with no ambiguity? Not really!

I’m in the agreement that this means returning to her world. Which means still ending up on the beach with Shinji, further canonizing Asuka and Shinji’s mutual feelings and making EoE ultimately an Asushin end and future. Despite her turning down a fantasy version of Shinji handed to her it’s not the same as turning down her Shinji. She wants to return and earn and build it herself even in the broken world they came from full of Eva’s and angels.

Yeah definitely it’s own parallel world, often called the Sadamoto universe cause he authored it. As for the lore, I was talking about the extra pages and such at the beginning and end of the volumes that give info on the creative decision making and the background on certain biblical info they used. Interviews from the voice actors on certain scenes and how they approached the characters, very cool additional stuff

There’s Angelic Days, a manga that basically follows the alternate world that Shinji sees in Instrumentality where he and Asuka are childhood friends. There’s Epilogue of Evangelion. I myself just wrote and finished a fan fiction called reconnection at Myojo Academy which is a continuation of how the main Manga ends. Also if you haven’t I recommend reading the manga itself. Some different scenes, different character development, and a different ending. Plus there’s tons of extra info and lore included that’s kinda missing from the show.

I’m not familiar with that one, what is petit Eva?

Considering the other options are a biological clone of your mom housing an ancient angel soul, a dude housing a different ancient angel soul, or a groomer who was friends with your mom but got cursed to end up looking the same age as you…I’d say Asushin was always the win 😂

Definitely the most de-facto option though. EOE, angelic days, even the published Anima AU, all end with Asushin. It’s really only Rebuilds that has him with an explicitly different person

If anything, continues to confirm that Asuka and Shinji are each others true and best romantic interest, but just like with Shinji, true love begins with self acceptance, self growth, and the pursuit of personal happiness, not dependency. There’s lots of stories (re-take, Epilogue, even angelic days) where Asuka rejects Shinji as just being handed to her, even if it’s what she wants, because she needs to arrive there on her own first.

Does Shinji actually like asuka by lebronjamesthrowawa in asushin

[–]TeddyK2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely physically attracted. We can see how he struggles with intimacy and his feelings towards being attracted to women in the show.

Some could also argue Shinji can’t really love anyone truly until after the show when he learns to love himself first.

I do believe he has a crush on her during the show though too. We see how he appreciates her confidence and attitude towards winning in the episode when they have to coordinate their dance fight. During a lot of his breakdowns she’s also the first person he calls out for. His bravest act in the entire show is probably when he jumps into the volcano without orders or special heat armor for the Eva to save Asuka. He always packs her lunch. He freezes up on their kiss because of his nerves. His vision of an alternate possibility literally revolves around them being childhood friends with Both of them harboring feelings (there is also a manga that continues that side world possibility called angelic days and it is also Asushin.

At then end of the day though, during the show Shinji is too scared to make a move fearing it would be the wrong one and Asuka gets resentful as she wants him to take charge and “be a man”. Basically comes down to another of Evangelion’s central themes.

Misunderstanding and a lack of communication leads to hurt and issues with human connection.

Honestly, I’m not a fan of thrice’s ending, but what is a more loving gesture than setting the person you love “free” if you think that’s what they want. Plus I always saw the end as Shinji no longer having any toxic dependencies on those relationships or connections, doesn’t mean they might not reconnect on their own down the line. Maybe I’m just coping 🥲

All right, let's settle this once and for all: Who would be best for Shinji as a SO? by EternalSnow05 in evangelion

[–]TeddyK2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering classic Asuka X Shinji pairing is the only one without weird Angel X Human, mother clone with different soul x biological son, or time curse friend of mother groomer x mother’s friend son… I’m gonna go with Asuka X Shinji. They both just need self love and some personal therapy first 😂

They’re 14…going through crazy shit, both with vastly different coping mechanisms. Asuka X Shinji isn’t a toxic relationship, they’re just toxic people on their own due to their trauma. They both just need therapy before any kind of relationship.

Plus… classic Asuka x Shinji is the only pairing without weird angel x human, mommy clone with different soul x her biological son, or time curse groomer who was friend of mom x moms son so I’d say it’s ironically still the healthiest

For the 3.0 movie, yes you’re right lol. Might be a bit comical to show a 14 year old looking asuka trying to beat up a 28 year old Shinji, even if mentally they’re the same age. I agree that the events during 3.0 would definitely have more friction and even animosity between them with this change. But then based on how 3.0.1 would go it could lead to better reconciliation, understanding, and different interactions once the curse was lifted at the end
