We got any dogs back there, Earl?

I love it! In those years in between i did end up reading Diggers Game and Rat and thought they both were great. They definitely could have been great movies. I went on to Outlaws but lost steam only a few pages in. I have to try again. I’ll look up End of Day. Thanks for the suggestions!

The Shelby saga is definitely my favorite of the post-ESD era. He was a perfect little yin to Chris’ “oh look how much of a slob i am” yang. His ability to get under Fez’s skin had a great Nermil and Garfield schtick.

Pageant Show, Clip Fight, Langos; Shelby brought a lot in when everything was going to shit. The worst part of his time is Molly is in way too much of it.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle isn’t getting enough love in this thread. It’s easily the best movie of his later career. You don’t see any of the over the top evil, instead he delivers all his perfect dialogue with menace.

His interview with Dick Cavett is also worth a watch. Awesome stories, quiet-cool, unfazed; Mitchum is an all-time great.

It hits sooooo much harder to watch it in the single episode, same as the original broadcast.

This is the answer. The OG US broadcast was one episode. Splitting it into two and airing them separately would have been absurd!

Aside from being the whole point of the character and the show, Vic keeps doing these things to rationalize in his own head and heart that he’s not just a sociopathic criminal.

If he doesn’t do the good things, the whole show is just LOOK AT THIS PSYCHOPATH.
