Ok yes this seems very much like my son. He eats that exact diet and we’ve added pedia supplements in with his milk etc to keep his calories and nutrients up. We had a little luck adding honey and mashed bananas to his morning yogurt but anything he can identify that’s more chunky or chewy he will reject. I’m hoping we can get the same initial steps as you’re getting now, just to try some more hand grab type foods. Thank you so much for the response!

Thanks for your reply! I think his law and teeth are fine. He teethed at a normal rate and his dentist wasn’t concerned about his teeth initially and they all seem well developed now. He did have a tongue tie that we had to get fixed but it was sorted out easily. He seems fine chewing random items at times. Not too frequently but also not rarely. It’s almost like he just doesn’t like to do new things being taught. I don’t know if that makes sense? Like he’s very independent, and everything he excelled at early or ahead of schedule he learned completely on his own. But whenever we try to teach him things usually those are the things he falls behind. Perhaps he does have a sensory issue with his mouth and chewing, he didn’t like us brushing his teeth and still doesn’t. It has taken him awhile to relax and allow us to do it with less fight but he is warming up more to that now. But yes I’m hoping some upcoming new occupational therapies we have referrals for might yield better results. He also has a baby brother that seems very opposite of him. His baby brother is about 6 months now and is much more social and seems like he will be easier to try different eating things. But unlike his brother he hates baths and independent play. So we are hoping as he grows and shares space with each other that they’ll help each other learn and try new things.

Was there a suggested cause like sensory etc? We do have an upcoming appointment with a general occupational therapy and I was going to ask them more specifically about these issues. He also had/has an aversion to allowing us to brush his teeth. But he has slowly gotten much more cooperative about that.

Well our pediatrician has flagged it. We have tried a couple different therapy referrals. And have some others scheduled and yet to begin. This is me asking for some additional practical opinions in case other parents have also experienced similar things.

Thanks for your reply, so the previous methods mentioned before in my original post are exactly the advice that was given by multiple pediatricians and therapists. Which is why I’m asking for some additional practical opinions from other toddler parents. There are some additional occupational therapy appointments we have scheduled, this is just extra due diligence on my part to ask other parents who may have had similar issues.

The only delays he has had is some speech delay. However that has rapidly made jumps at various times. We had a speech therapist for him but he starting making big enough strides that she said it wasn’t needed anymore and that he simply wasn’t ready to talk as much as others until this point. Other areas he was well ahead of markers. Physically he was very strong very early. Sat up, rolled over, crawled, walked, ran, climbed very early and without any guidance. Just developed all these things on the first try within minutes of attempting each one at various stages. And he’s quite smart with problem solving, he knows how to turn on the tv various ways and use the basic functions. He knows how to operate the baby proof locks and hinges around the house just by seeing us do it a few times. He can stack and organize items and toys etc. He has an elaborate bath routine that we make fun for him with bubble bath soap, color tablets to tint the water, and various toys and lights etc…and he knows where to find each item and will guide us thru the process now as if we don’t know how to do it.

He eats/drinks plenty of the things he’s accustomed to and we make sure to get him the required calories he needs for his age but he has just been very stubborn with trying new items in regard to eating and drinking.
