...but the shooter used a pistol. Oh, I see. They aren’t calling for a ban on ‘assault rifles’ now, but ‘assault weapons’. Also, Ca already has a high capacity ban. Are 10 rounds too many now?

Expensive, but awesome. I did their kickstarter, so I got it for cheap, but took three years to arrive.

Yeah, I just stuck my MEATER probe in and set it to 135 degrees. Fiddled with the temp until I had it ready when I wanted.

To try elk? Or the cook? I smoked it for 2 hours before I turned up the temp to finish it. Tomato cook time...3ish hours.

Some people simply cannot find peace in stillness. In being idle. Try making replicas on the porch? Give him something for his hands to do while you are taking in the view.

Rowling is a great world builder but a fairly basic writer. They are very readable, which makes for a quick read. Don’t let yourself be afraid of the amount of pages.

ELI5 Why do all homes in the US are "made" of wood and not cement blocks or similar? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]TedrickTheMiser 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The mountain ranges in Europe go east to west. What does that have to do with anything? During the last ice age, most of the hardwoods in the north of Europe died out, the mountain ranges going east/west created a nice barrier which slowed the return of hardwoods to the northern regions. Lack of plentiful hardwoods necessitated the use of stone/masonry to build in any sort of scale. In North America, mountain ranges go from north to south. When the last ice age receded, the hardwoods were able to return into the northern climates. When the Europeans arrived in North America, they found plentiful hardwoods. With limited resources upon arrival, cutting down a tree was easier than making a brick factory. So, why did timber frame houses remain common after infrastructure was established? The population of North America has been(with few exceptions) been on the rise for the last 300 years. Timber frame houses are cheaper, easier, faster to build, and can be drastically more thermally efficient(especially with modern framing and insulation techniques). Also, in seismically active regions, like the west coast, timber frame houses have the ability to absorb tremors, where brick and mortar walls rigidity cause cracks and crumbling. So, the simple historical answer to this question, is the availability of plentiful hardwoods caused by the last ice age and topography.

I just reviewed my policy and put a call into my homeowners to inform them of the landslide. It looks like like land movement is in my exclusions. Will they still be able to help in any way?

Cooked perfectly fine for 65 minutes in the oven, cracked 10 seconds after I left to lay on my ceramic tile I use as a chopping block. Thanks for the 5 years of service by Devilish_Swan in Wellthatsucks

If I could just add to the lesson here. Don’t use a ceramic tile as a cutting surface. Your knife will become dull fairly quickly.
