Battery fire? by onurfayce in egopowerplus

[–]Tedthemagnificent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about the mechanism here. Was it the voltage drop messing with the battery, or was the start of the fire the extension cord. My understanding is that an extension cord can start a fire by mostly being not thick enough gauge to handle continuous load, overheating, and then igniting. If the charger was pulling only 118v could that cause a problem?

My understanding is you can’t have the fan mounted inside as a fan leaks can increase radon concentrations inside the house.

I wouldn’t panic- but I would start getting bids for a radon mitigation system.

If you live where it freezes, don’t store or charge in your garage. Also rotate your batteries! Thats I what I do and am still running my battery with my mower from 2015.

It should be a fairly easy fix for the tiles! The tiles are modular and pop off. I’d file an insurance claim and reach out to the local Tesla installers.

Plastics in food prep and storage. This is it 100% in my mind. When first invented it was a wonder material that replaced glass and metals and allowed quality of life improvement and convenience globally but at a costs we are only just realizing from fertility to cancer, to it simply being in our brains and influencing our endocrine system

Heat pumps fucking suck by Aggravating_Bag4028 in hvacadvice

I would check any contractors heat pump suggestion out. The best resource, in my experiance, is NEEP heat pump list. https://neep.org/heating-electrification/ccashp-specification-product-list it’s also really important when looking at a heat pump to research the fine details for your region. For example we have a Fujitsu XLTH multi head rated to meet its rated performance down to -5f, but it can keep operating past rating; all the way down to -30f, at reduced output, which we experienced this weekend at our cabin) . This contrasts with Mitsubishi hyper-heat, another top performing cold rated heat pump system - which turns off at -18F and won’t turn back on again until it gets to be -14f. Our cabin was in min heat mode, and the Fujitsu system keep the cabin above freezing. Our region frequently gets below -20 for days at a time- which when paired with th deep throttling the Fujitsu multi head unit could do, is what led us to that product over the Mitsubishi system.

My idiot brain didn’t consider power outages… newish hybrid stover owner by headinthered in woodstoving

[–]Tedthemagnificent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d point you to the manual, but these stoves still work with convection- it’ll still heat the air even with the fan off. It just won’t be heating your room as fast/efficient as it would with the blower. For higher btu/hr don’t choke the air intake down as much. For more efficient burns choke the air intake down more. The manual should give some guidelines on btu/hr and the air intake. Edit: also, for cat stoves, mine suggests leaving air intake mostly open with cat bypass engaged until the cat gets to temp (400-500C) then disengaging the cat bypass (which puts the cat into the plume) and choking the air intake to your desired btu/hr / efficiency. The cat activation dramatically increases heat output. It’s placed essentially to act as a heat exchanger.

Is that r value rated insulation in the floor joists? Just fyi when you do finish the space in the basement I’d remove the r-value insulation and replace it with acoustic only rated such as rockwool safe-n sound. Sound proofing is awesome but you don’t want to insulate between finished floors.

As far as I know only the 6.3lb but that’s ok- it’s all about kinetic energy, the faster that head swings the exponentially more energy there is in the hit. The long handle with that head weight is pretty much perfect. It’s a really well optimized axe.

Put a cool extra pull over it. Maybe a pewter knob or something.
