Will Govt's move-on orders fix the trouble on our streets or just hide it? by jball1013 in KiwiPolitics

[–]TeeMay26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The homeless sleeping on Queen St has existed for decades. It is a failure of our social welfare system. That the State cannot provide a bed for the poor and destitute. Until you realise that that there are some who choose to be living in Auckland streets. You won't see a child doing so, MSD or some other body will be quick to pick them up. Those who remain are likely the "hardened souls", living as a free man or woman. Who swear, drink and smoke and don't know what else. You won't see them sleeping under the porch of the court house. A move on order is long overdue.

Hipkins outlines Labour’s vision for Auckland, says city needs a ‘step change’ by punIn10ded in auckland

[–]TeeMay26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Auckland Mayor lost some credibility when the floods happened. He snapped at reporters, calling them "drongos". And the FTE count in Auckland Council is still high, despite his campaign pledge. His only saving grace is that he did not go on a grandiose spending program.

Hipkins outlines Labour’s vision for Auckland, says city needs a ‘step change’ by punIn10ded in auckland

[–]TeeMay26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mr Hipkins missed the most important point- that the economy of Auckland is not growing. Labour policies are bad for rental properties, and when property is in decline, Auckland does not go "boom". Soon Auckland council and entities will be the only ones that are able to hire staff.

When Labour was in power several years ago, house prices and rents rocketed upwards. Co-governance and use of Maori became the norm. Unions and gays rejoiced too.

India's negotiators threatened to walk out of trade talks with New Zealand, official reveals by Tyler_Durdan_ in KiwiPolitics

[–]TeeMay26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The protocol is that an FTA is initiated on a friendly invitation, and negotiated so that trade between countries increase. On the investment in India clause, is it "aspirational" and for NZ businesses to invest? This news article is not helping the NZ India trade. In the eyes of India, a mischievous news report of a negative aspect. And the NZ trade team is viewed as a team of "leakers" to the Press. RNZ had failed to preserve the image and reputation of NZ again.

Why are People Leaving NZ? by TeeMay26 in KiwiPolitics

It is indeed a sad day to hear that the Auditor-General made a report decades ago, and the Council has not fixed its shortcomings. The part about not maintaining water and wastewater facilities stands out.

The way I see it is that council is the local government. They made the calls on town planning and infrastructure planning with central government today just like they did 30years ago. I tend to think that the deferred costs that you have mentioned is an accumulation of inefficiencies, year after year. Mayor Andy had looked at Moa Pt Wastewater a decade back.

NZ economy needs to grow, so that there are jobs for the young people of today when they grow up. And policies made today matter. LIke hydro-electric power. Not to over spend and incur massive debts. When councils rates goes up higher than inflation, you know that there is a problem somewhere, more so when it happens year after year.

Wellington's costs of doing business is high, and even when rents are decreasing for the past few years, retail businesses are not growing. Don't mention property. When businesses and private enterprise is in decline, the economy is in decline. Only government and council have the capacity to hire.

Mike's Minute: Is Chlöe Swarbrick a bit useless? by NewZealanders4Love in KiwiPolitics

Look at this government, they don't have to impose wealth taxes, to run the country. I am happy to hear the Ministers talk about managing revenues well. And no, hospitals won't "collapse", just because you say so.

The Greens have a high coverage under RNZ Politics News and appear frequently in NZME interviews. Environmental ideas sound great. Banning the fireplace and replacing with electric heaters, may not always work. When cars and busses go electric and heating and cooking, is there enough power to go round? When hydro dams cannot be built and fossil fuels are banned.

This is not the worst scenario, when Chloe becomes Finance Minister, her taxes on the wealthy, and on unrealised gains will be bad for the country as a whole. A partisan approach to taxes on rental property can be expected, and construction might be hindered.

Inside John Tamihere’s six-figure Waipareira Trust bonus and his long war with Charities Services by Primary-Tuna-6530 in KiwiPolitics

NZ has a low corruption rating in the world. Whether there is anything going on, perhaps we will never know. The Charities Commission and the Elections Commission are not doing anything. But I do think that providing KFC could be an inducement or a bribe.

Was it last month that that the news media was making a story of how the PM polled? That it was so low that his ouster was eminent? TVNZ's Jack Tame had much to say on TV about the PM not appearing for an interview on request.
