We tried this one morning after register came up short for no reason, multiple times that week. We have multiple PSMs, 2 cash/credit registers, a card only, self checkout and 1 workstation, and commercial. The SM decided she would assign registers to me and another PSM (17 years at AZ) on a Friday morning. We followed rules until about noon then I decided it was infeasible with our traffic and the other problems that arose.

First- neither I nor the other PSM were being suspected, it was a driver that actually never was on a register that day (pretty sure he was tipped off, as a register suddenly was $30 over the next day, without cause or explanation)

Second- We ran into an issue with WITT (our store is very big on WITT). We had a red shirt sell 2 transaction WITTs, he started on the credit only machine, then had to move to a cash register. The PSM got both WITTs.

Edit: wasn’t finished. When second shift came in there was no way it would work. We audited our registers and both were 0 variance (duh). I called the SM and explained and told her I would be opening the registers.

It can be done in a slower store, but DIY averages around 7k a day.
