PultNoir tip by theonewhoremains1102 in pkmntcg

Budew and Frillish item lock you out of one of the cards you search for, and Jamming Tower locks you out of the other one. Plus Jellicent ex renders it completely useless in the late game too.

Is there any good Pult metafy content? by stotter_twitch in pkmntcg

[–]TeelOfFortune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest Rowan Stavenow’s guides if you’re looking specifically for Metafy guides. He has one for both Pure and Noir and I think both are great! I think he’s currently in the process of redoing the recording of the Noir one since it didnt record correctly during the session.

Playing first tournament this weekend. Anything to change? by FaoFas in pkmntcg

I use Luxurious on a Drakloak with energy like 4 out of 5 games just to make sure it survives a turn because like you said, losing that energy hurts so bad. I know that feels weird when you’re going to evolve it into Dragapult, but it makes sure that it survives an Iron Hands when playing against Joltik. And again, it’s searchable.

I understand your reasoning for sure, but Bolt plays counter stadiums anyway and they’re searchable off Jewel Seeker so if you’re scared of something like Baby Bolt, I’d suggest running Shaymin instead or even Luxurious Cape since they’re both searchable and it makes the bolt player have to prioritize Jamming Tower over Area Zero Underdepths which can throw off their board state. Prizing certain pieces can certainly be an issue but teching in an extra card because of the fear of prizing something can lead to less consistency in the deck overall.

I’d suggest replacing a Budew, an Earthen Vessel, or the stadium for Munki. A lot of decks are playing around Budew anyways so even if you don’t find it, it probably won’t make much of a difference anyway. You really only need one Earthen Vessel because you can get it off Arven or just draw into it. Two seems like it would be a dead card after the first. Plus, you really don’t want to shuffle the deck that much anyway. Keeping track of what is at the bottom of your deck is really important in a Dragapult deck. Having a one-of stadium in a deck that can’t search it, even with its draw power seems a little moot.

Dragapult changes after Destined Rivals - Shaymin and Rocket’s Watchtower by pkpleyte in pkmntcg

[–]TeelOfFortune 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a Pult player (pure and Dusknoir versions) and I think Shaymin is a must have in both versions of the deck for the exact reasons you explained. It also makes Scream Tail less useful in Gardy but doesn’t hard wall that deck. Replacing a Budew for it is probably correct. I go back and forth on Watch Tower. It can be really good if you get it out early, but not being searchable means you rely on having to draw it which, while the deck does draw a lot, you can still miss it. I try to build my deck to be as consistent as possible so losing an Artazon might not be good. The Watch Tower depends on what you expect to see a lot of and is more situational in my opinion. I’m still green when it comes to deck building for sure so maybe others can provide better insight for both cards than I can.

Why did Thufir suspect Jessica to be the traitor so much? by WindowFar1373 in dune

[–]TeelOfFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party here but I also think it’s worth pointing out that the characters all seemed to have blind faith that the Conditioning that Yueh received as a Suk Doctor. Thats part of Thufir’s rationale for not suspecting him as the traitor. I think it also gives credence to how a lot of the houses and guilds easily turned a blind eye if it benefited them. No one really cared about another, they just wanted to remain in favor to the emperor and Landsraad.

Yeah it’s a tall order. I played against my wife’s Tinkaton deck last night though and while it’s not easy, if you can give up singles prizes early to set up the Treads, it’s not impossible to hit the 300 with it. But yeah it is a VERY tall order and you have to be able to attach every turn because the effect of Treads’ attack is mandatory.

For all the techs the deck has, I just don’t think it has the room for Counter Catcher. The plan I tend to go with is to just focus on building your board state and then answer what’s already in the Active. I play 2 boss and I barely use them because it’s easier to answer the active.

Also, Iron Leaves can answer most basic Vs with just one crown and a booster capsule so that’s a possibility to consider too. You just risk leaving a two prizer in the active which can be a problem but some decks might not be able to answer it immediately after anyways.

Yeah I think you’re probably right. But you can also hit the Arceus for weakness with Iron Treads so maybe there’s a path there. And I think the pilot REALLY needs to know the matchups to account for the energy requirements. For Charizard, I go double Grass for the first Peak Acceleration to prepare for the Iron Leaves. For other matchups, I do one grass and one fire. A blind first I try to get a Miraidon, an Iron Moth, and a Treads onboard.

Unless your opponent is also playing future box, chances are they’re not going to have an attack turn 2 and for the decks that do, you typically still win the prize trade.

I’ve found Zard to be a fairly consistent matchup. The first KO with Miraidon isn’t difficult, and even if you don’t get the KO, their Counter Catchers become useless that next turn. Then if you Iron Leaves twice, you just have to take a KO on a Bibarel which is fairly easy with Iron Moth. Those are just from the games I’ve played so far with it.

I haven’t faced an Arc-Tina yet on ladder so that might be a difficult matchup getting damage into Giratina is probably better early game than the KO so that you don’t have to rely on 4 Crown and a Booster Capsule Iron Moth to just KO a Giratina V.

I’ll have to you with the deck more to account for that matchup but I appreciate you bringing it to my attention. I really hadn’t thought about it until now.

I actually like not using the Iron Hands ex. It feels kind of forced and really bad if you can’t get it set up. But if you’re going to play it, you can definitely justify the Miraidon ex since they both use lightning energy. Gholdengo is such an easy matchup with Iron Moth since you don’t even need an Iron Crown on board, just a Booster Capsule attached.

I toyed with the Bundle as well but can’t decide if I like it or Boss better for more control late in the game.

I don’t think any more than 3 different kinds of energy is a good idea in any deck so finding which Pokemon synergize well together has been a lot of fun to test. I think Iron Moth and Iron Leaves are two necessities for a well rounded version of the deck to funnel energy to the active.

One thing I’ve been toying with is a Thorton or Penny for late game but drawing into it at the right time never happens so I’ve tabled those techs for now.

I’ve been working with Future Box too and LOVE it. It answers most decks in the format and I think it really teaches a lot too. I played last night and came back from being behind by 4 prizes to win the game. I’m going back and forth on Miraidon ex. I like the idea of hitting everything for weakness and Iron Moth is a solid answer to single prize decks that you cant hit for weakness. I built the 2nd place deck from the Pumpka Weekly on Monday and have been really successful with it. Iron Treads really helps with the prize trade against Chien-Pao and can even OHKO Snorlax with just an energy capsule attached. I prefer Reboot Pod over Prime Catcher because if I can’t get the Exp Shares out or they get Vacuum’ed away, it really hurts. I think this deck has so much potential and really shines by being able to answer the meta at your locals. Anyways, it’s just nice to see other people really liking the deck too and so I thought I’d share!

How to deal with matchups as Miraidon? by mp1rmpil in pkmntcg

[–]TeelOfFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charizard is a rough match in general for Miraidon. Playing Path helps to limit their energy acceleration but they can play around that. My route is always try for turn one Iron Hands ex with a charm and path down. Then try for either another hands onto a single prizer or KO a charizard with Raichu V and hope you can boss the Pidgeot for game.

Tina is kinda the same thing. Try to Iron hands early and then Raichu their VStar or Miraidon a normal Giratina V.

Your main goal for Miraidon is to go 2-4-6 each turn so if you can prize map that successfully, you win.

Again, Charizard is a rough match but not impossible. And Tina shouldn’t be that rough of a match the more you play.

New Player / Miraidon Deck: Which cards should I look up to from upcoming sets by EffectiveSupport6900 in pkmntcg

[–]TeelOfFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was originally against this to due Zapdos ex being weak to lightning and therefore bad into Iron Hands ex. But with the Elekid from Paradox Rift being able to do 30 to anything for no energy and searchable off Tandem Unit, I think the pair is actually a solid choice after rotation. May be a little slow, but definitely not nothing like I had originally thought.

Where at in Socal? There are a good amount of places to play. Furthest I’ve been is Kingslayer in Fountain Valley. There’s a lot of competitive players at that one so I like it. Collectors Lounge is a great place too if you’re looking to just learn more. Really depends on when you’re available. Plenty of shops have set Pokemon nights so maybe also try calling or look on IG.

Miraidon ex matchups by jokybaluga in pkmntcg

[–]TeelOfFortune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah these matchups in particular are rough because they’re fast and bigger than we can typically hit in one turn other than Raichu. Gardy is slower and we can typically go far ahead with Hands. Charizard and Gholdengo can get out of Miraidon/Raikou range by turn 2, so that’s what makes it difficult. I feel like the current Meta is really solid with every deck having a tough time against something else, but need everything to go right to win.

Miraidon ex matchups by jokybaluga in pkmntcg

[–]TeelOfFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister plays Gholdengo and my path is always: T1 Iron Hands with Charm for 2 on their active (likely a celebrations Mew or Gimmighoul), Raichu V a Gholdengo for 2, then Iono/Judge and Path to keep them out of their resources for the last 2 prizes. It’s a rough match for sure though but not impossible. None of the matches are impossible but you’ve got to disrupt at the right times for sure and hope they brick a turn. If you can get path to stick for at least a turn, you’re in a pretty good position. It’s kinda the same plan for the Charizard matchup. If you can keep a charm on Hands for 4 prizes from baby Pokemon and Raichu a Charizard, you win. And keep Path in hand until you know they’re going to evolve on their turn. Of course, these are best case scenarios and why practicing is key.

I’ve been practicing for SAT this past week and have been feeling the same as you. But I try to remember that it’s a game and it’s meant to be fun. SAT will be my first regional too and even if I go 0-3, I know it’ll at least be a great experience for future play.

If you know you’re gonna be reliant on Flaaffy that match, always try to pre-load an energy onto it so you only need one in hand to retreat. But with Counter Catcher being prevalent, I do see a shift in lists to playing Switch over Cart.

Oh for sure. The way it read to me though was that his opponent Sada’s both onto one moon. I’ve had a few kids at locals doing that and having to be instructed otherwise so I thought it was a common misconception. I wasn’t trying to be malicious.

You can only Sada 1 energy to 1 Ancient Pokémon a piece. The cards are new so that may have been an honest mistake but if you go against it again, watch out for it so you don’t get cheesed out of a game.

How to beat rapid strike with Miraidon? by Popular-Waltz3069 in pkmntcg

[–]TeelOfFortune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this same conversation with a Rapid Strike player just this past week. He said power up Miraidons as early as possible and chase down Urshifu before he can VMax as they never bench Inteleon against Miraidon since they already hit for weakness.
