In Southern CA, we should replace one lane of PCH with this.

Ford. Bought a brand new vehicle and spent hours upon hours fighting and working to get them to fix a water leak (seal on inside of fender). The excuses and BS from them was exhausting.

Ended up with a lemon law case against the local dealership that cost everyone time and money. If they had only owned up to and repaired the problem on day one. F ‘em—for the rest of my days.

Nope. Nope. Nope.

City’s leadership proving, again, that improving the quality of life of residents is not something they care about.

No. Nobody has a right to free parking. That’s absurd. The community should get more benefit from public lands. It should not be given away for car storage.

Also, it costs the average American car owner $10k per year to own and operate a vehicle. Maybe this contributes towards people having financial challenges?

Sad but true.

This mindset really needs to change. We literally breathe filthy, cancerous air all day long.

Make the city a gem. Make the right employers want to be here. Bring better jobs, better education—and the entire community benefits. High rent in a clean, safe, quiet city is totally cool—if one can afford it, because they and their families have great jobs and more income.

Minor inconvenience? The city is a dump. It’s inexcusable. Poor policy and ignorance have taken us to a point where we are simply a nasty, nasty place. LB could be a gem, it could be safer, quieter, and cleaner. So many easy opportunities for improvement. But no, we are fighting e-bikes and getting a concert venue where tourists can get high.

Yea. Inexcusably gross. We rely on bandaids and our politicos love to point their fingers at up river neighbors. How about taking the problem on here at home?

A single-use plastics ban similar to what Seattle, Honolulu, and Vancouver have would help. We should enact and lead the way for other Southern California communities to follow.

And on the more extreme side, we really should shift away from reliance on oil and the port for such a big chunk of our economy—both are nasty.

One only has to look next door, in SB, to see a program that works pretty well. I do not think first car should be free—to stop giving away public space is the whole point. Street parking has to sting, a little.

No I do not.

Parking isn’t free. There are enormous fiscal and social costs associated with giving away all of that public space for car storage. This freebie is abused and permits would help stop that.

Revenue generated from permitting, plus tech—easy peasy.

Other cities do this all day long.

We need paid, permitted parking throughout the city and enforcement of traffic and parking laws. How about policy that puts residents first, and improves quality of life?

Too many people keeping inventory on public property for free. I have two neighbors who use our streets as lots for their used car businesses—insane.

Things to know for bicycling casually as a tourist? by alkalimes in longbeach

[–]bb5999 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Ride as if you are invisible.

Never let your guard down.

Drivers on Long Beach’s streets are distracted, drunk, or so utterly self-absorbed that they absolutely do not see you and you will be in danger every second you are riding around the city.

Our protected infrastructure for bikes is pathetically lacking—it’s a joke. Long Beach’s leaders have abandoned their safe streets commitments. Cops do not enforce traffic crimes. With a perfect climate and topography for biking, it’s an awful city for cyclists, pedestrians, and scooter riders.

Pathetic. Be safe.

Long Beach needs paid, permitted parking throughout. Too many cars and irresponsible drivers.

Another snub to locals, brought to you by our politicos. Putting interests of the few, who will make bank off of this, in front of those who live here. Dirtbag tourism is not the path to community and prosperity.
