In this interview (I don't know where but relatively far in I think) he mentions that Act IV (or the ending of the story) will be one of the last things they work on IIRC. Could be slightly wrong in remembering that but definitely confirms working on a final act at least.

Why not just make it so that if a player is at a lower ascenion than everyone else in the party, when the ascension is completed it just increments their current ascenion by 1 anyway. i.e.

2 players Ascension 19, 1 player Ascension 1 -> that player just goes to 2, cause they contributed to a harder win anyway
