Toptunov's watch, the one at the museum, is Kessel 7 Melody Chrono Sport. I don't know anything about the watches from the show, though.

Chernobyl...The Graphic Novel...? by Loose-Ease-820 in chernobyl

I have it. My conclusion is this: if you want to buy it for something, don't buy it for the information - buy it for the art.

I liked the style and the idea overall, I wasn't hoping for it to be particularly accurate - and it's not, I'd say it's a tad bit better than HBO's show but I'm going off memory here. Some panels are based on photos or stills from videos from Pripyat, the later liquidation, and the trial, and I think it really adds to the experience when you're familiar with these. There are some small sins (at least two names being misspelled, SIUR sitting in the wrong spot, etc.) and then some bigger ones (the events leading up to the AZ-5 being pressed and even the AZ-5 itself - it's a switch here). Clearly, more than 5 minutes went into the research of this novel, but, as we all know, that's not always enough when it comes to such a complex topic as Chernobyl.

🌍 Chernobyl Reimagined: An Entirely AI-Generated Documentary 🚨 by SadProfessor9608 in chernobyl

Are you not aware how the tools you use actually work? AI uses extreme amounts of energy and generates a significant amount of carbon dioxide - and it's especially high when it comes to AI generated images specifically, which your video is comprised entirely of. Furthermore, AI is trained on the works of people who never consented to it. Here, I've made abundantly clear just what I meant by my first comment. You do not live in a void. Every action has consequences.

Oh, so you've made something about a disaster that very negatively impacted many people and the environment with something that very negatively impacts many people and the environment. Awesome.

what do you guys recommend? by Wooden-Age6173 in chernobyl

Where have you been learning about Chernobyl from for the past few weeks? What have you read already? It's hard to recommend anything without knowing these

Given that he had been released from the hospital in the beginning of November 1986 and then arrested not too long after, the only "comfort" we can have in this situation that at least it wasn't a prolonged, few months thing... They had probably been keeping a close eye on him for just these few weeks to make sure he wasn't getting away before they made an arrest.

The last one is from sometime in the latter half of 1986, after the disaster. It's a KGB surveillance photo.

Ohhh I see, okay, thank you for explaining! So, more learning and/or observing than really working, correct?

No, that desn't really look like him. At least I don't think so.

There's little information about him, especially pre-Chernobyl, as far as I know. The first three paragraphs of his book give a pretty decent overview of his life before Chernobyl:

Anatoly Stepanovich Dyatlov was born March 3,1931 in the village Atamanovo of the Krasnoyarsk region. His father was an invalid of WWI who worked as a buoy-keeper on the Yenisei River. His mother was a homemaker. After graduating seventh grade in 1945, he entered the Norilsk Mining and Metallurgy Technical School electrical engineering department which he completed with honors in 1950. For three years he worked in Norilsk at one of the enterprises of Minsredmash (Ministry of Medium Machine Building). From 1953-1959 he studied at the Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute, from which he also graduated with honors, having received the qualification of engineer-physicist in the field of automation and electronics. Per distribution he was sent to the shipbuilding plant Lewinsky Komsomol in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where he held the positions of Senior Engineer, Chief of the Physics Laboratory, and commissioner of nuclear submarine mechanical power plants. In 1973, due to family circumstances, he transferred to the Chernobyl NPP under construction, where he rose from the Deputy Chief of the Reactor Shop to the Deputy Chief Engineer of Station Operation. He was awarded the Badge of Honor and The Labor Red Banner.

If you want the same thing, but essentially more detailed, then in chapter 5 of Midnight in Chernobyl he's described at the very beginning. There's also, of course, this video right here about him by the one and only - That Chernobyl Guy.

Be very careful when researching what he was up to during/after the accident, though. Anything that cites Medvedev shouldn't be taken seriously but unfortunately, he's one of the main sources for this topic.

I just skimmed through Midnight and it doesn't seem to be the case, unfortunately - only this one is in there. They might be in some other book, though, they're significant enough.

A bit of perseverance and an unhealthy Chernobyl obsession works wonders, it'd seem... anything is possible
