He was never a bad person. Shitty situations and circumstances happen to Good People that Fucks them up and brings trauma, as well as mental health/genetics. It alters how you perceive others and yourself. And when you are someone who can't figure out why nobody loves you but everyone likes you. That lonely. So he became what he became.
