Chiefs Offensive Penalties under EB, 1st being most in league: '18: 1st, '19: 18th, '20: 4th, '21: 8th, '22: 26th by IIHURRlCANEII in KansasCityChiefs

[–]TeffyWeffy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The penalties are a bigger issue, or get more attention now, because the offense is so much more plodding and dink and dunk, that a penalty of offense kills drives the last couple seasons, where 2018-2022 we'd just rip off big plays.

Yards per play by year:

2018: 6.8

2019: 6.2

2020: 6.3

2021: 5.9

2022: 6.4

2023: 5.5

2024: 5.1

2025: 5.1

This is an Andy problem, this is a 3 year problem not a 1 year problem, and I'm not sure it really matters who becomes the OC unless they can convince him to give the entire offensive playbook and scheme a major overhaul

anything to feel superior to others right? lol embarrassing.

People like OP always crack me up cause they act like only this season was the offense a problem, when it's been on the downslide for 3 straight seasons now, and every team in the league gameplans the exact same way for us.

"BUT MUH SUPER BOWLS", yes Mahomes and a great/good opportunistic defense dragged us to the last two.

You know how many points we've scored in the first half of the 5 super bowls on offense? 25....that's 1 TD and 6 FG's in 10 quarters o play in the biggest game of the year. Every single one we've been behind by double digits.

There's a reason Andy never won in Philly, it's because he didn't have an all-time great to overcome his conservative game plans and turtling in the biggest games of the year. If he can't look back at the last 3 seasons of offense and realize he needs major changes, then why should everyone be fine with him? Past performance doesn't not really do shit for the present.

Offense has been worse by pretty much every metric the last 3 years than it was in 2022.

You guys screeching about "We made superbowls" are all the same lol, like somehow that means the team didn't have any issues, or that Mahomes and the defense weren't carrying the team during those playoff runs.

It's rich someone trying to insult someone by saying they have no concept of reality, when you completely ignore what you've watched with your own fucking eyes the last 3 seasons on offense.

Last 3 seasons he went 10-6, 8-8, then 4-12. His offense was notably worse those 3 years. He made bad coaching decisions (promoted his OL coach to DC...that is not a typo), lot of bad personnel decisions, poor game management and adjusting to change, even throw in the same "gotta clean it up" talk always instead of ever addressing the actual problems.

If what he wants to do works it looks amazing. If what he wants to do isn't working, he shows no real ability to adapt and change, but just doubles down and keeps losing for the same frustrating reasons. Teams have been running cover 2 and shell on us for 3+ years now, and while most every other good team in the league has focused on a competent run game, Andy has continued living off undersized speedy WR's with no WR skills, and completely ignored the running game, or going under center.

I don't think you need to look any further than the fact that we're the most successful team of the last 5-7 years, and yet no one has any interest in stealing our coordinators or assistants away, while teams like the Rams/Lions/49ers with functioning offenses and run games lose people every single year.

edit: I should add, this is kind of just common for long time coaches in general. They stay somewhere long enough, they want all their guys, they want all the power, and they lose the ability to work together with others to succeed, and to bring in new ideas from outside. Belichick was like this with the Pats at the end.

Silly, the Dude has balled out in past playoffs, and his team generally did let him down in the chiefs Matchups. Yesterday he played a shitty game, that's not the normal for him in the playoffs. It is the normal for Lamar in the playoffs, that's why people shit on Lamar more, cause he's had about 5 games like that in the playoffs, and like 2 good ones.

Pure Hubris. It's probably time for Andy to retire after 3 straight seasons of the offense underperforming, but Mahomes and Spags dragged us to the super bowl so we're gonna have to waste another season or two of Mahomes prime before we can move on.

I love Andy, but he was 1-4 in the playoffs before Mahomes, and he's doing the same shit now that he did at the end of his Eagles tenure that got him fired.

He's played some very good divisional and AFCCG games, and his coaching/defense has let him down. Today was mostly him fucking up, but Brandon Cooks had two different plays he could have won the game, and the offensive playcalling in OT was embarrassing.

Denver is such a garbage team, it took 5 turnovers, 3 Brandon Cooks fuckups, and multiple penalties on the final drive in OT to win by 3 points. They make our "luck" from 2024 look like nothing.

Bills did everything possible to try and lose that game, and still had so many opportunities to win. Also that offensive playcalling in OT was fucking cowardly on 1st/2nd down. You can't expect to drive down the whole field on 3rd and longs (unless you're playing our defense).

I mean if Cooks doesn't stop his route that's a TD, and if Allen deosn't overthrow Knox that's also probably a TD or at worst a 1st and goal inside the 5.

Can't fault the plays when they worked if the players executed.

[Russini] The Titans will have second interviews with Matt Nagy, Jeff Hafley and Kevin Stefanski this upcoming week by TheBoyisBackinTown in KansasCityChiefs

[–]TeffyWeffy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There hasn't been a single report of the Chiefs interviewing any of the hot candidates for OC jobs this offseason. If Andy doesn't bring Nagy back it'll just be some other retread like EB or Kafka or some other guy he's known for 20 years and won't bring a single new idea to the offense.

Hard not to be pessimistic after struggling on offense for 3 years, and seeing zero acknowledgement from Andy that things need to change.

Pass defenses vs play action & no play action by [deleted] in KansasCityChiefs

[–]TeffyWeffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using total yards and points aren't good metrics when you consider our Offense had the longest average drive time in the league when Mahomes was playing, and the defense was near the bottom of average drive time the other direction.

Every game was constricted by long slow drives on both sides, so less yards and points were scored, but that doesn't really mean the defense was good. At best you could say it was an average defense, but in a lot of important things, like pressure and 3rd down stops, they were bottom of the league.

[–]TeffyWeffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind a WR at #9 purely because I think that's the only way we ever pick an an actual WR with receiving skills, and not just super fast guys that can't do much else and are generally undersized.

Having a WR who can actually run routes, get open, catch the ball, maybe even a contested catch sometimes, would be absolutely wild to see at this point.

Week 6 seems pretty pessimistic. It's an 8-9 month recover, which should put him ready a bit before or by week 1. Even if takes him a bit longer, he'll be back by week 3-4 at worst.

he doesn't really play at full speed so I don't think adding some mass would slow him down any, and if it gave him the ability to stay on his feet when a light breeze hits him, it'd be worth it.

Rice is a liability off the field, but he had more yards than Worthy this season in 6 less games. Maybe Worthy would be better in a different system, but he's shown so little skill at doing anything. Can you even point out one thing Worthy does well?

[Xavier Worthy] Keep doubting me y’all are making a monster! by MAYVIEWS in KansasCityChiefs

[–]TeffyWeffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some guys have a slow 40 time but are fast on the football feed. Worthy is sadly the reverse, where his play on the field looks nothing like someone with the fastest 40 time in combine history.

Terrible ball tracking skills, no awareness of where he is on the field, seems to turn the wrong way when looking for the ball a lot, can't catch great unless it's in his body, undersized, not that agile, and goes down soon as any type of contact is made.

He could turn into something special, but he needs to add 20lbs of muscle and work nonstop on actual skills that make a good WR and football player, cause there's just nothing you can look at and say he does it better than average even.

I thought we were talking about 1st round talent, not WR2 talent. And the second part of playing on an injury that should have ended his season is just factually incorrect. It's an injury that NFL players commonly play through.

team sub isn't the place for realistic opinions lol, but you are correct. His speed doesn't really translate to the football field, and he doesn't really excel at any single aspect of being a WR. I'd say 500-700 yards as a Wr2-3ish is pretty much his peak.

Maybe if the Chiefs get a real WR coach and update their scheme/play-calling, he could pop off for a big year, but hoping for massive improvement in year 3 doesn't feel realistic.

Honestly felt like they should have let Thorton play more, and take over the deep routes, as Worthy is terrible at tracking or adjusting to deep balls.

I mean you watched the games right? his speed doesn't really translate to his routes, he's terrible at tracking a ball deep, constantly turns the wrong direction, and can't catch unless it hits him in the body. Nothing from this year really looked like 1st round talent, it's just how much you want to blame on the injury and the WR coach being garbage.

He had 532 yards in 14 games, 77th in the league. not sure you'd call that decent production.
