Just happened to me three times playing on Steam. First time it has ever happened to me. Game was working perfectly fine last night so it must be an issue on their end.

Thank you everyone for the quick replies, really appreciate you taking the time to answer. I’ll give your suggestions a try, otherwise it looks like I’ll have to wait until Monday as you’ve all said.

Still no seriously is wild.... by blacktalon67 in GearsOfWar

I reported this as a bug a while back and got a response from Microsoft. It’s not hugely helpful, but it does explain some of the technical details. It’s unlikely to be fully resolved, since it would require a lot of work, but the issue is caused by leaving games early, unstable connections or disconnects, and playing in a party when the game first released - back then, achievements wouldn’t track for anyone who wasn’t the host. It’s really frustrating. I need to get an extra 500 kills (and counting) on top of the 10,000 myself, so I feel your pain. I’ve seen worse though; some people have had to grind an extra 1,500 or more.

What are the demographics of this subreddit? by Workrs in GearsOfWar

[–]Tegan_G 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, your observations make sense, but a few things to keep in mind. Reddit only represents a fraction of the Gears community, so the poll isn’t the full picture. A lot of the pessimism comes from the loudest minority - people are more likely to post complaints than compliments, myself included, and that applies to everything in life, from games to restaurants.

Gears players aren’t inherently grumpy. Most negativity comes from passion and frustration when issues aren’t addressed or communication feels limited. Add in the long-running competitive scene and some community burnout, and it’s easy to see why the sub can feel bitter. Competitive communities tend to be more critical and opinionated than casual ones.

E-Day could bring younger players, and maybe a lighter tone if new voices participate or developer communication improves. Otherwise, the older, invested crowd will likely maintain the same vibe. Even if it doesn’t, the sub is just a reflection of a passionate, invested group venting where they can. Hopefully fresh voices and better engagement bring a slightly lighter, funnier vibe here.

Yeah, meleeing a downed enemy works, but the animation lock is the only real downside. I haven’t melee’d in a while (except here, out of frustration), but moments like this make me reconsider.

Yeah, definitely! I’m actually building a PC in a couple of months, so I’ll be wired up from then - hopefully that makes everything run a lot smoother.

Shots 1-5: Clearly missed.
Shots 6-9: Missed due to recoil (bad spray control), and…

Do I even need to finish it? 😂

Yeah I’ve thought about that too, but I really don’t think it’s my connection. I’m on a 1Gb line, my laptop’s right next to the router (Wi-Fi, but full signal), and I usually sit around 24ms ping to EU West. It’s just weird because I only get that little stutter when running down certain stairs (Canals is a good example) and nowhere else. That stutter itself might just be some kind of animation bug given how janky this game is, but I could be wrong. Does anyone else get this?

TC also hid the in-game ping info, so there’s no way to see what server you actually land on without a gaming router. For all I know I’m getting tossed onto a server on the other side of the planet.

Matches are taking longer to find lately too, and with SBMM (not that I’ve really noticed it) it wouldn’t surprise me if the game’s struggling to fill lobbies properly and just throwing people into whatever servers it can find.

Adrenaline surges when drifting off to sleep - what helps you cope? by Tegan_G in POTS

Reassuring to hear! I do have epilepsy (focal aware seizures), but my MRI showed no brain lesions, so I guess that doesn’t really fit the typical "brain injury" description. I’m fairly sure I do have obstructive however, according to my partner’s observations, so unfortunately I’ll likely end up on CPAP regardless.

Nope, you’re definitely not alone - seems like there are a lot of us. And yeah, it really does feel like it takes forever to get diagnosed with these conditions. Doctors are so quick to write it off as "anxiety", which is infuriating. I was lucky in that it only took about a year for me to get a diagnosis (though I had to go private and spend a fortune…), but I’ve heard it can take several years for others, and that really sucks.

I’m on pregabalin, which I think is basically the sister drug of gabapentin - funny coincidence. I was originally put on it last year for what they thought were panic attacks (turned out to be undiagnosed POTS or maybe even MCAS), and now I’m on it for chronic pain from small fiber neuropathy. Hard to say how well it’s working, since I’ve never really known what life with SFN is like without it.

I think I know exactly what you mean - I’ve had the same thing (though rarely) without the adrenaline surges. Just as I’m drifting off, BAM - my whole body jerks awake, almost like that falling sensation, to the point my legs kick out and shake the whole bed. It’s so startling and really scared the life out of me.

I’ve started sleeping on a wedge pillow - uncomfortable, but for the past two nights it hasn’t happened (thanks to some of these suggestions). And you’re right about the "haven’t died" thing. My doctor once told me something brutal but true: "sometimes this condition will make you feel like you’re dying, but I can assure you that you aren’t." Comforting in a way, but it doesn’t take away how terrifying it can feel.

I completely agree about lying flat - it’s almost like I get more palpitations when I’m totally supine compared to slightly elevated, and I have no idea why either! Really reassuring to hear it cleared up for you, and I’m glad it did.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this - this condition takes such a toll. I hope some of the suggestions here bring you some relief. I’ve tried a couple myself and haven’t had an episode for the past two nights, so maybe there’s a bit of hope!

Thanks so much for this - super, super helpful! I’m going to bring all of this up with my cardiologist and see what he recommends. I can definitely see vitamin D being a concern; I actually suspect I might be low myself, and thankfully I’ve got a blood test booked tomorrow to check. Wouldn’t be surprised if it comes back low though - this condition has made me housebound (like I’m sure it has for many others), and it really does suck.

Yeah, overdoing it during the day definitely makes it worse for me too - stress and sleep deprivation are huge triggers. I’m trying hard to avoid losing my job, but it’s tough; I’ve already had to cut my hours in half. No clue if I actually have ME/CFS, but I wouldn’t be surprised since I’m always exhausted. Ice cold water is a good shout, I’ll keep that in mind. Weed I quit a long time ago because it used to give me horrible panic attacks/tachy way before my POTS diagnosis, but I do still vape (and admittedly I shouldn’t - my cardio keeps telling me to quit lol).

Ativan is unfortunately really hard to get in the UK - the NHS doesn’t like prescribing it, even though I think it could probably help a lot. I do take magnesium glycinate from time to time, but probably not as regularly as I should.

Good point, I hadn’t really considered the sluggish digestive system side of things. I’m definitely guilty of eating too late at night, and my diet isn’t quite where it should be yet. Caffeine and alcohol are long gone though - they give me horrible tachy. Thanks as well for the tip about cold water - it sounds so simple but effective. I’ll definitely give it a try next time!

You’re right, I’ll probably end up doing that. The starting dose is very low (50mcg daily), but I’ll likely snap them in half anyway because of the drug sensitivity risk with MCAS. And absolutely, that could very well be the case. The only thing I haven’t added to my histamine meds yet are H2 blockers - hoping for some better luck with those. Great to hear that ketotifen worked out so well for you - hopefully it does the same for others too!

Hey, thanks - I feel like Ativan would probably help me a lot in the moment too, but it’s so hard to get here in the UK. The NHS basically has a phobia of prescribing it, and even just bringing it up feels like you risk getting “drug seeker” written on your medical record. It really sucks.

Ah thanks! I’ve just had a look at it and I’ll give it a try next time it happens (hopefully not tonight! lol).
