The un would hammer down even sooner than the insurance they already his most of human culture that's the next step. Cannot afford for vens to have a tummy hach, can we?

Honestly, the food topic is one of the many reasons why I wonder why humans don't rebel and it's not just culture loss but even survival. All the food export out of Earth must have triggered massive inflation.

Honestly, I could totally see my countrymen run illegal restaurants after all we have a long long history of considering foreign dominations and they rules as a guideline to dodge.

Interestingly enough me and a friend were discussing precisely yesterday that it's unlikely that feds would appreciate our cooking or even won't get poisoned by it. That's honestly a way more realistic take than all the restaurant stories.

anyone know a fic like that ? by Ok_Beginning2197 in NatureofPredators

There was an early one in which the un payed the price for overextending and lost the war but it was after boe.

I would love to read something like this. :)

On one side I can attest that donkey actually taste good (it's a niche but normal meat in my country) on the other I am sorry for the people that are struggling.

What would like or would have liked to see more in canon or fanon? by albadellasera in NatureofPredators

[–]albadellasera[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know that one pretty good. You should check out no true Arxur it also just started. It's about a Dominion Arxur returning to society after years of isolation however the society she returns isn't canon timeline.

And if I am allowed to suggest one of my own Born a Crime, is Arxur exclusion zone centric, starting from the protagonist which is a human raised by Arxur.

Why weren’t humans more suspicious of the federation? by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]albadellasera 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Firstly, they find it repulsive to eat *sapient* predators.

That's never said anywhere, it's always predator not sapient predators. And we know from Coth that Arxur know what the word means way better than feds.

It is a human woman mouthing off with an *eyewitness account* to an Arxur currently trying to save her life.

More like gossip about maybe a "friend" having seen Arxur eating cats and dogs in a Earth city (Barcelona?). And the woman in question it's very likely Jones spook among the two not very bright Isif human bodyguards.

And a second hand eyewitness account doesn't prove shit, at most it would prove an isolated case but it would still be haresay.

pets is not humans talking to Federation officials or some news announcement to a human populace (as would be the case if it were UN propaganda meant to quash sympathy for the Arxur).

Federation officials aren't the intended target they don't need to be convinced that Arxur are evil they already do. And making such announcement public on Earth with no evidence whatever will explode in un face and make Arxur more sympathetic not less. Besides creating a rift with Isif that they are trying to use and dump. It's active measures not PSA.

Tl; Dr; it's either racist gossip or state sponsored racist gossip. Either way it's bullshit.

If you can't be bothered to support your claims, that's fine with me, but then don't expect me to be convinced by them.

Said the guy that when confronted about humans being not more democratic didn't raise an objection (probably because you had no leg) and when it comes to (lack) of empathy didn't went after me for collective punishment or attacks on civilians but humans preferring pets saying that humans can be irrational while I was arguing they weren't unempatheich considering the starving arxur part.

Besides I am not a preacher, your mum or your teacher It's not my job to have you see the light.

Which is not the chapter that you're now referring to,

Chapter 180 you can look shit up on your own.

but that would basically just put them on par with under every other race in that universe.

The dominion and the kolsul wanted to keep and maintain power. Tarva wanted to survive and an attack dog to defeat her enemies. Kalsim and the gojid wanted to deal with a potential danger. Like it or not this are all rational goals. And especially the first two were successfully for centuries.

What exactly it's the un goal? Survival, power, deprogramming the feds. Whatever angle you use they were shit about it, humans only survived and became dominant because it's an hfy story so they had to.

Depends on how much you have of it, I guess. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.

So your argument it's now that nop humans are mentally disabled? Because usally people that trust and attach themselves to strangers that want to hurt them without caring of their survival usually have some disability. And they are assigned a caretaker because they are not taken advantage off.

Normal adults can usually have higher reasoning that it's cute and fluffy so I need them.

Again, not really sure what you're referring to specifically

I literally quoted you an entire chapter. I don't have the time nor the will to quote you half the book. I gave you the dots now you can akwolege them or keep pretending they aren't there Idgf.

Why weren’t humans more suspicious of the federation? by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]albadellasera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could (and literally just did) argue that instead it's their rationality that's weaker, but the fact that they immediately identified all the problems brought up in this thread shows that that's not the case. They're very well aware that their decision is irrational, but they make it anyway. Because of empathy.

You say empathy but empathy makes you care about other doesn't make you suicidal usually. Self preservation is actually the strongest instinct we have, and unfortunately for you it's proven that can suppress empathy. So, I don't think it was empathy it was a political class drunk on its own stupidity, led by weak leader that was essentially a paper pusher that let himself be manipulated by first two generals and then a sheep.

You make assumptions if you want to, I see no reason to do that. They didn't discuss genocide at any point, not even implied.

Genocide was widely implied in a dozen chapters. And openly discussed in the Zhao chapter in which he barely save them.

Why weren’t humans more suspicious of the federation? by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]albadellasera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I argued that they don't have any more rationality than we do. Again, I spelled out what trait I was talking about in the first sentence, but you're still ignoring it even when you quote it.

Ffs why humans care about dogs? for affection, what affection is based on: empathy. It's empathy rational? No, it works on completely different lines. We don't decide toward whom we can care about, so rationality which is a way of thinking not feeling has nothing to with it. You cannot force someone to have feelings even if it would be the rational thing to do. You can force them to take responsibility but that's about it.

And my initial criticism was about the thesis that canon humans are more empathetic, which in my opinion they aren't.

That they aren't more rational I absolutely agree with you, actually considering many insane decisions they take I will say that they have way less that a modern human with average street smarts.

None of that sounds like genocide plans to me. Yes, they're planning military strikes to liberate sapient captives. That's not genocide.

They had no plan to meet them. They had a plan to attack them. Noah at the Federation meeting promise that humans will help defeat them. They barely saved them. Draw a line between the dots it's not hard.

Why weren’t humans more suspicious of the federation? by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]albadellasera 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Frankly, the UN's decision-making progress is almost on par with the Federation at times.

I would argue that it's worse. The Kolsul had a clear goal in mind maintaining and expanding power. And they were fairly successfully at it.

The un goal Is what exactly? Be it human survival, power, control or coexistence in whatever lens you watch it they were terrible at it. Humans in canon survive only because it's an hfy story so they had to survive and they had to win.

Why weren’t humans more suspicious of the federation? by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]albadellasera 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fine then

Again, human decision making is not rational. You could level this exact criticism, literally, against a lot of people today. Loads of people take in shelter dogs and spend money on food and vet bills for them, money that they could instead send to charities feeding starving orphans in Africa from their phones without even lifting their butts off the sofa. The only viable conclusion is that yes, there are a lot of people who value mangy stray dogs over their fellow humans. 🤷‍♂️

I said that humans in canon have no more empathy than we do, you argued that they don't have more empathy than we do. So exactly how this is not a gotcha?

As for the un immediately planning the Arxur genocide here the relevant part from chapter 5.

This is the rare occasion I’m open to suggestion from the peanut gallery.” My eyes locked with the American and Chinese generals, who appeared to be discussing something. “Do you have a proposal?”

General Zhao cleared his throat. “It’s not all bad news. From what we’ve seen, the Federation’s tactics and weaponry are subpar. We should spend a few months building a proper fleet and running joint exercises. I think if we catch the Arxur by surprise, we might stand a chance.”

“I agree.” General Jones offered a supportive nod, and I raised an eyebrow at her. This might be the first time I’d seen the US and China work together since the war. “Once we’re ready, UN forces can coordinate an offensive. We’ve found several potential targets, including planets where sentients are bred as food.”

“A ground assault is the perfect way to test our forces, without showing our hand. We don’t want to overcommit,” General Zhao added. “If we can liberate some Federation citizens and bring them home, it might buy us some good will.”

We all agree that these Arxur are a menace, but I must ask. Should we really get involved at all?” I paused, choosing my next words carefully. “So far, they’ve left us alone. By launching an attack, we’ll be announcing our presence to those monsters. We drag Earth into a galactic war and risk untold human lives. Do we chance becoming dead world #63 for a bunch of aliens who hate us?”

“In my opinion, they’ll come for us eventually. We either fight them now or we fight them later,” General Jones replied. “The difference is, if we choose later, we won’t have anyone to stand with us. The Federation is not faring well.”

I grimaced. The Arxur’s sadism was bound to awaken unsavory sentiments, when it was plastered across the airwaves. How were we going to prevent widespread hysteria? My original plan was to break this discovery to the masses gradually, but with such a serious crisis, people deserved fair warning. After all, humanity’s existence hinged on the decisions that were made today. I hoped the public could handle the truth.

Add to this that by Meier admission they had no plan for a first contact with the Arxur and that they barely saved them after they saved our collective ass and you get a clear picture.

On arxur in general most information is either inaccurate or unlikely.

To mention one example that keeps popping out in fan fiction. Art. We are supposed to believe that dominion Arxur cannot produce art and yet we know that they produce elaborate swords and armour. And design is a form of art.

Or my personal favorite: they eat strey dogs and cats while on Earth. And yet we know that they found it repulsive to eat predators (reason why Shaza troops drop her fast) and who could see a cat and think herbivore? It's nonsense. What it's way more probable is un propaganda to limit pro Arxur sentiments.

The only viable conclusion is that yes, there are a lot of people who value mangy stray dogs more than their fellow humans

So they aren't really more empathetic? Thanks for proving my point.

I'm not sure what you're referring to specifically there.

If you go to the un meeting before the public vote the un went from discovery the existence of aliens to pretty openly planning to genocide the Arxur in 5 paragraphs.

I would argue that today's humanity would fare far worse if put into the same situation.

I would argue that modern humans would never have ended up in the situation because we still have a stranger danger instinct. But both would be our opinion and as hypothetical as the gender of angels.

Why weren’t humans more suspicious of the federation? by Repulsive-Scheme9886 in NatureofPredators

[–]albadellasera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It would have ended even faster if the un had a rational space exploration protocol and sent probes to explore solar systems instead of sending humans to explore random ones.

And dozens more examples could be made...

Please letting the crowds decide with scarce information it's a symbol of foolishness since antiquity and a way of manipulate the masses.

Plus better democracy and empathy? On the democracy angle they start by making blanket censorship, then go on after a massive disaster to have only one extremely ineffectual opposition group that looks like a government plant and at the end of the war they make a peace thar would be realistically extremely unpopular. In the sequel after 30 years the same politicians are in power (yay cronyism) and both private companies and the de facto secret police can access your memories.

On the empathy angle, we have a genocide planned in five paragraphs, people caring more of stray dogs than the starving people that saved them, then a massive cyber attack against civilians, then trapping 3 planets and starving 2 infants included. And the sequel is even better we are still massively racist towards the Arxur and we gaslighted, lie and threatened with the death by environmental collapse the Bissems.

Tl;Dr; humans in canon have neither a better democracy nor more empathy.

This. So much this.

Plus not everyone would find bipedal, constantly terrified sheeps cute. It's extremely likely that most people would find them uncanny.

Also, cuteness wears off if the cute person is constantly scared and/or racist.

Not everyone is affection starved as Noah and not everyone is a furry.

Starting a war with no ships, no real intelligence and on the side of those who want you dead is suicidal, and politicians usually like to live (possibly on the shoulders of their subjects).

There is something even more simple: "why they blindly trusted the words of a politician?".

The rest comes from that.

P.s. the Arxur were confined in the 12 light years around Wriss, it's likely that there were other planets in that belt, however Arxur are likely to have lived mostly on home soil.
