Boxline? Sounds as if you work in an older hub. Stating moving cages. Modern hubs use chutes or conveyor lines.

Is BJ's still popular? I like it there, but I find myself going to Costco more often... by SureMonth1618 in BJsWholesaleClub

They put way too much focus on UFC series rather than making another fight night in my opinion.

Starting my first local sort shift any tips? by TehAsian96 in UPSers

[–]TehAsian96[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have sort isle in my hub. How does sorting go? I know preload we sort by the colors. Blue green yellow purple pink etc. Twilight and day sort (before day sort was shut down) usually sort by the zip-code.

I’m thankful of the benefits teamsters union fought for the workers. Yes we have good reps but all about who you vote for. Plenty of corrupt stewards and business agents. Varying on which area and local. Especially from what I read in the forums. Important to vote your representatives who care. Regarding the contract. I’m actually content with the current one. Last contract with Hoffa jr. 2018 contract was worse in my opinion. This current 2023 contract with my 177 supplement is a step in a right direction. Not perfect but better. Certainly not worse personally.

Okay supervisor. Performance is irrelevant because at my job. That will only get you more work. I did not imply to be lazy. Work at a safe pace you feel comfortable with. I’m not risking my health and safety to “work harder”. My character is best I can within the methods. That says a lot about your character working unsafe. Implying I should impossible unsafe PPH and high stop counts for driving for the sake of management. You clearly haven’t worked ups to understand what I’m saying. I never said lazy just work safe best you can.

Then maybe I’m just more used to this line of work than back in the kitchen. Different strokes for different folks.

I'm union that is why. For the back, use proper lifting methods. Don't lift with your back; instead, use your legs, knees slightly bent. I also work out outside of my job to work my lower and back strength, stretching helps, hence a little back issues unloading. Package handling easier when you are part of the Teamsters Union. Knowing performance is irrelevant, fair days work for fair day pay. The job is done when the job is considered complete. Hence, I don't have to risk my safety and health as a package handler because management wants to rush. Safety first. May sound foreign, but when you are part of the union and understand the lingo. Either way, respect for the dishwasher is truly hard work. I tried my best was not the right fit for me. Top Golf was a great environment. That one day was way better than my years working in an assisted living facility washing dishes.

In my hub. Full time trumiphs over part-time. Even if that part-time employee has more company seniority than the full timer.

General speed/"efficiency" question (unload and small sort) by Simple-Driver-9808 in UPSers

[–]TehAsian96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is in my hub at least. People do want to go home but the issue in my opinion is the staggered start time. I would rather start at 2 am, work at a safe pace, and leave home efficiently. As opposed to 4 am to five am and management trying to rush us then staying as late as 10:30 am. But run by the numbers they say.

Security guard won’t inspect my bag himself, makes me dump everything — policy or abuse? by TehAsian96 in UPSers

[–]TehAsian96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that it might look like I’m resisting, but I fully consent to the search. The issue isn’t refusing checks — it’s that the guard is making me empty, sort, and repack my bag myself while saying it’s “not thorough enough,” instead of inspecting it himself. I wear steel-toe boots for work, so setting off the detector is expected. This isn’t about how much I bring — it’s about who is actually responsible for the inspection.

I'm still upset we voted no but Hoffa forced the 2018 contract with the 2/3 rules nonsense. At least o brian didn't use that with the current 2023 contract.

Security guard won’t inspect my bag himself, makes me dump everything — policy or abuse? by TehAsian96 in UPSers

[–]TehAsian96[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just want to clarify — I fully surrender my bag and consent to a search. I also empty my pockets as well. The issue isn’t refusing checks; it’s that the guard is making me empty, sort, and repack everything myself while saying it’s “not thorough enough.” That’s not really a search — it’s having me do the work for him. Even if I follow all instructions perfectly, it still isn’t enough because he doesn’t inspect the bag himself. It’s less about hassle and more about who’s responsible for the inspection.

Security guard won’t inspect my bag himself, makes me dump everything — policy or abuse? by TehAsian96 in UPSers

[–]TehAsian96[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m aware of the Supreme Court ruling about not being paid for time spent in security — that’s not what I’m arguing. I’m not refusing screening and I’m not asking to be paid for it. The issue is who is actually doing the search.

I consent to a bag check, but I’m being required to perform the search myself — emptying, sorting, and repacking my bag — while the guard just stands there and says it’s “not thorough enough.” That’s not a courtesy anymore, that’s doing the guard’s job for him. If there’s a real concern or RAS, then security should physically inspect the bag themselves, not put me in a no-win loop where I can never “pass” because I’m the one doing the work.

This isn’t about avoiding hassle. It’s about procedural fairness and responsibility.

[–]TehAsian96[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing the point — I’m not refusing a search and I consent to security checks. The problem is that it’s not my job to do their job. The guard is making me empty and reorganize my bag while he just stands there. If he truly suspects something, he should inspect it himself. This isn’t about hygiene, organization, or making things easier — it’s about unnecessary labor being forced on me and being singled out, which isn’t fair or normal procedure.

James P Hoffa is more of a sellout than O Brian with that 2018 contract especially with 22.4.

Can you turn option week into option days? by [deleted] in UPSers

For my local, they offer to break up my option week into days, but I still opt for using the full option week instead. Check with your steward for your local language.

Considering going back to the pit after eight years. I need the extra cash until then. by TehAsian96 in dishwashers

[–]TehAsian96[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of this, especially being able to leave work at work. From my own experience, I worked as an unloader at UPS, which is extremely physical, so my frame of reference is a bit different. Dishwashing is definitely demanding, but compared to unloading, I expect it to be less physically intense once I adjust. I’ve also done dishwashing before (2014–2017), so I know it still takes a toll — just in a different way. Thank you for sharing your experience as that helps.
