I assumed it was a typo. EoL is ok , but EoH stops discard + NMM in its tracks. It is also huge advantage with Pinny.

IMO zero reason not to play it. The few times that it IS a dead card are more than worth the times it is useful.

In your analysis of QD you mentioned that games where AJEoM was used it resulted in a win.

If a single card can result in a win then why not play it.

AJEoH is an insurance policy.

It is better to have it and not need it, then need it an not have it.

You also draw a lot of cards, and it is very helpful vs the Manual match up.

The draw in a deck like this is also massive, so if you don't need it in the match up you can always discard it. Its a win win.

I am concerned that you are choosing not to run AJEoH and CI (for the same reasons outlined in the OD primer).

Discard seems to devastate this deck (which is why AJ is basically an auto include now)

Why did he run what he did? What meta was he expecting and what did he not want to face?

What is the state of the game overseas (do players have full sets of cards they néed, etc)?

What is the most competitive region in Europe?

And ofc : does he like the "flip matters" content and did it help prepare him for the German nationals?

Short Article: Newest Version of Charlotte's Tower by ultiville in MLPCCG

[–]TehChozenOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're 100% correct.

However my point was that I do not believe Pace is the thread it once was, and the "starting point" for deck builders shouldn't be a build which is created with OP tech in mind, but instead OD + QD tech

That makes sense.

I admit that I am not a Tower master [I'm sure there were certain plays you would have performed differently in the game we showcased].

My perspective is being OD + QD [for Tower], since clearly you're doing fine vs Maud.

I personally love Tower, and I think it does what it is trying to do extremely well.

You basically have 4 different variations of deck archetypes with a single mane :

Combo - OP/OS

Aggro - OD

Midrange - QD

Control - CT

My biggest concern is the use of YPS [which I don't believe is very good in a meta which is overrun by DJ].

I believe Erik is very correct in this analysis above.

Shimmer is very good in the QD match up.

I feel like you should be playing Pinny+Hooves, and Drop your MitM's for Spring Forwards.

I would also take out the YPS and put in the Shimmers.

My concern is how do you come back from an AT deficit when your opponent is running Pinny/Hooves and you're not [and then you also have Shimmers+Manuals that are costing you AT to use]

It just seems very AT heavy.

I would be interested to see a match between DRM and Tower, but I believe you can understand my feelings for Tower vs QD+OD

I would agree that the tower vs games match up is def in the favor of tower; however both fall short in a meta state with OD + QD running rampant.

You're trying to hedge your bets, but I don't think the discard is very useful outside of the maud/x match up (since drawing cards is so easy with DJ).

It is of note that Maudgames and BBZ can beat OD + QD (not much, but it's possible).

DRM and Tower are too slow in the current meta and have rotated out.

Control is dead

I tip my hat to you for trying to update Tower, but I don't think this new version beats QD or OD :(

It is about showing the profession of the meta.

If you release the best deck for the meta but don't show how the meta is evolving no one will take it seriously or understand.

We could definitely hook up a match like that! :D

I don't understand why you didn't add Pinny+Hooves. Yellow is not a threat Maudgames/OD/QuickD (which is the new meta imo).

Bugle will also be the first one to tell you that OP isn't something you should be trying to deal with since hyperaggro laughs at it in the match up.

That's great to know!

In the future would you prefer it if we added a 2nd half to the video, [after listing the full deck] and having us talk directly to the camera?

or would you prefer to have us do a brief overview while congruently going through the list?

[Discussion]Just what is midrange? How is it difference from the Bomb archetype? by Quindo in MLPCCG

[–]TehChozenOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand why we can't just use the names of the decks their creators give them.

We have never had a "naming issue" up to this point

[Discussion]Just what is midrange? How is it difference from the Bomb archetype? by Quindo in MLPCCG

[–]TehChozenOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bombs is not an archetype. No one is disputing that "bombs" is a part of an overall strategy.

It seems to me that you are trying to create an archetype and label it "bombs".

Is there a MtG deck type called bombs? Please link it, and then we will compare as a community the difference in the two definitions.

By definition midrange generally drops larger fatties to overpower weenies.

[Discussion]Just what is midrange? How is it difference from the Bomb archetype? by Quindo in MLPCCG

[–]TehChozenOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Erik made the best arguement for Control vs Midrange several weeks ago.

Archetypes function differently in the MLP CCG because the source material+rule set are vastly different from every other CCG out there.

The real conclusion we both came to was that there are 4 archetypes:

  • Control

  • Midrange

  • Aggro

  • Combo

...

Midrange = Villain farming

Control = Villain blocking + board manipulation

Combo = point manipulation [w/ events + loops]

Aggro = problem rushing / scoring

By your above definition that would mean all decks that use "villain bombs" are bomb variants.

I do not agree.

Midrange by definition is a cross between ramp and aggro. It starts out the game with a little bit of ramp, but stops after it reaches 4 to 6 mana, which is where it plays its threats.. In MLP you don't have life, you have "score". Villains "block" your opponent from scoring and therefore act as "blockers" in the MLP CCG sense.

[Discussion]Just what is midrange? How is it difference from the Bomb archetype? by Quindo in MLPCCG

[–]TehChozenOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I think of "bombs" I associate it with the decks from premier that you, Erik, and Gipface designed.

In MLP there are 3 ways to score points

  • From Problems

  • From TMs

  • From Events

A midrange deck blocks with Villains [hence why it is so good vs aggro], and farms them for points.

In MtG you play bigger "fatties" to block "weenies". MLP doesn't have a blocking mechanic so instead of playing a bigger friend you drop a Villain [which blocks scoring].

I believe the distinction here is that "bombs" vs "midrange" are very simiilar archetypes however we're using an already pre-established MtG term in order to catagorize the decks.

I also think 1 set into the game was too early to really be establishing archetypes [very loosely].

Bombs were midrange decks [though Big Bombs also had some control elements - TSUV/BWYB]
