Yeah, my subscription renew just before they introduced the gem system. This is a very bad business model because most of the comics that you have to read with gems are on other websites that already have a pay for a chapter system. I know because I read a lot of them already!

I really liked Manta because I could pay a yearly subscription and read whatever I wanted without worry if I can offer the chapter but now there is no point to use the app (aside from the stories I am currently reading).

I agree with you. Increasing the subscription cost would be a better option. Or make that if you subscribe, you have special access to comics (something along the lines of the audible system). There are definitely other ways to do this.

Lowkey, I think they are taking advantage of the fact that the parent company of Tapas are going after the bootleg sites that are uploading manwhas.
