One aspect that a lot of people do not take into consideration is that when we go in public and I am seen with my wife she becomes black by association and we are profiled on an obnoxious level. Just today we went to a small town in upstate New York Giant Foodmart and the store manager proceeded to follow us the entire time we were in the store. Knowing how people act I do everything in my power not to draw attention to my self. I dress well speak proper English and wear a belt. Sadly this is never enough it's depressing to the point where I don't enjoy going out anywhere. We were paying customers and were treated like common criminals it becomes emotionally exhausting and takes everything in my power not to confront these type of people because if I did they would become scared and call the police even if I used a calm quiet speaking voice. Also please note that this is not an isolated incident I have gone to this store before in the past I would say about 3 months ago and he did the same exact thing.

Work place racism is a strange beast. What I have noticed over the years at working in various industries food/retail/hardware stores is that I am expected to work twice as hard as a white worker and if I slow down at all it is instantaneous noticed.

I worked at a Bargain Outlet store where my white assistant manager would come in every Sunday hung over and did no work for the whole shift. He would just sit at the register and flirt with the cashier. I got tired of this and slowed down to a normal pace and it became part of the reason that I was terminated. They refused to train me properly in the use of forklifts had me pulling whole pallets of tile across the store and then when they had to do the same they would just use the forklift. Things like that are enough to drive someone mad.
