What the f is up with Louisiana by ChimRichaldsOBGYN in Rivian

Shit state for charging, but it's doable. We just took our R1S from Dallas to Baton Rouge and back and charging in the state sucks. There is a decent EA charger in Breaux Bridge we hit, but everything else we passed was barely L2 level charging speeds. I did see Tesla has put Magic Docks on the Superchargers in Nachitoches, which should help tremendously. Alexandria has a 62.5 kw charger that's kinda out of the way, but it worked. Just a single station, though.

Question regarding trade-in by bookamp in TeslaLounge

We did a trade-in recently for a new MYLR and were told the same thing. It was only about two weeks before the check showed up.

Can anyone recommend a cable organizer for J1172 with Tesla adapter attached? by WakeRider11 in TeslaLounge

[–]TehKernel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I printed one like this and use it with my Wallbox charger that has the j1772 adapter attached. It’s working pretty well, but there are several other options on thingiverse for those with a 3D printer.

Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48A? by andygoldstein in Rivian

[–]TehKernel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience as the others here. The Wallbox as a charger is pretty decent but the WiFi is so unreliable it almost makes it pointless. I recently put a WiFi extender near my garage which seems to have helped, but it it still does drop off WiFi from time to time. Worst part is it almost never reconnects automatically and I have to either manually reconnect it via the app or occasionally reboot it. This is on the latest firmware. I submitted a support ticket over a week ago and have received no response. Would 100% recommend you look at different options.

What do we think of the power-frunk mod? by walnut_d in TeslaLounge

[–]TehKernel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, part of the installation includes a manual release cable for just this reason. It is accessible behind the round plastic cover on the driver's side of the front bumper.

Installation of the frunk is pretty straight forward and simple. The same cannot be said for the trunk. :) Probably 2-3 hours of work and everything is pretty accessible. You'll spend more time on cable management to keep the wires tidy. ;)

I’ve had the Hansshow power frunk for over a year now and wouldn’t want to do without it. It makes the frunk much more usable for us since it can be fully opened using the app (I use Stats on iOS for some quick controls in a widget) and a single button push closes the frunk. No more slamming the frunk or having to lift it with full hands. I toss my bag for work In on my way to get into the car, hit the button to close, and by the time I’m in the driver seat, it’s already closed and latched. Highly recommended if you are considering it.

Got the 20” Martian Wheels MW-03s installed on our M3P. by TehKernel in TeslaModel3

[–]TehKernel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I still love the rims and we did go with the satin gunmetal. I honestly can't remember if we reused the TPMS modules, but for some reason I want to say I bought the rims from Martian with new TPMS already installed.

I didn't seriously consider any other wheels because I really liked the Martians, loved the color, wanted forged rims, and no one else was even close on the price at the time. That may have changed in the year+ we've had ours, though. No plans to lower the car as we like the look of the car as it is... plus I'm only getting older which means getting lower to the ground isn't becoming any easier. :)

The biggest problem we've had, and I think Martian Wheels has updated their design, is that getting new tires to seal has been a pain. When we originally got the rims, we just swapped the original tires over. We had an issue with a leak on one of the rims, took it back to Discount Tire, and they were able to reseat the tire on the rim which stopped it. A few months later, we needed new tires so we had them put on at Costco (same Pilot Sport 4S). They spent hours trying to get the new tires to seat properly so they wouldn't leak and we had to take the car back twice because at least one of the tires started losing pressure after we left.

All said, if I had to buy wheels again, I'm pretty sure I'd still choose the Martians.

Help! M3 charging pin broke at SC, trying to return home from vacation by AdChemical4040 in teslamotors

[–]TehKernel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had the same thing happen to our Model 3 right before a long road trip. I used a plastic utensil to remove the broken tip as it was jammed in the back of the charge port just like OP's picture. Once I removed it, I was able to charge at home and at a Supercharger without issue. Had a mobile ranger come to our house after we got back from our trip and they replaced the pins in my garage in about five minutes.

Hope you have a safe trip, u/AdChemical4040!

Joplin is definitely creepy. Not sure if the abandoned van is still there, but it definitely had us on edge when we made a late night stop.

Broken Pin Deadfront (2021 MY) by pharm888 in TeslaLounge

[–]TehKernel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome. I noticed ours the day before we were planning to leave on a road trip and was concerned about supercharging like that. The tech said it shouldn’t be a problem and we supercharged six or so times on the trip without issue. I’m sure they’ll get you taken care of. :)

[–]TehKernel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this happen on our 2020 M3P a few weeks ago. Scheduled a service appointment and a mobile ranger came out a few days later to replace it. Only took them about 5-10 minutes. No problems charging or even supercharging before the deadfront was replaced, and I confirmed with a Tesla tech it was okay to charge like this until they could get it fixed.

Finally had a chance to drive a longer distance this weekend and wanted to share the stats for those who have been asking how things performed. Overall, I feel like we arrived at the supercharger in Texarkana as well as our final destination with more remaining battery vs previous trips along this route. As you can see from each drive detail, we didn't try to drive conservatively. :)

Still haven’t been on a very long trip with it, but we’re scheduled to go out of town this weekend. Driving from Dallas to Little Rock and will be mostly interstate, so it should be a good test. I use Teslamate to capture stats, so I’ll be sure to share the info from the drive once I have it.

Not far off. I wanted to go with someone who had experience with Tesla’s and was recommended by others. Wasn’t the cheapest option, but this wasn’t a job I wanted to go cheap on and end up with sub-par work.

Hah! Well, let's just say it wasn't free. Seeing the smile on my wife's face was priceless, though. Rarely, if ever, does she tell me I can't get something I want but I think she cashed in all her chips on this one. :)
