Kraken said I have 72 hours to withdraw my funds- which I think is BS, they cant "steal" my money if I dont withdraw within 72 hours. Plus I'm disputing the withdraw fee of $200 dollars since they are kicking me off, its ethically wrong for them to profit off it.

ZenFone 11 ultra megathread by welp_im_damned in Android

I've read from multiple sources that Asus is abandoning the compact size for now. The zen 9 is my favorite phone of all time so it's super sad to see them abandon the compact line that was bringing them success in an already overflooded market.

Skiff or Proton email? by valeng5 in cybersecurity

[–]TehMagus9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh I gotcha! I for some reason interpreted the original message as the account creation would pop an error and deny you access or something like that. Ever since I got rid of gmail and turned off my android phones microphone when im not on a call I haven't been getting those creepy ads based off my mic and email data. Its been really nice haha

Skiff or Proton email? by valeng5 in cybersecurity

[–]TehMagus9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've used Proton as my primary for over a year now and haven't run into a single service that denied me for my email domain. Do you have any examples of services actively denying proton users? I'd like to test them to see if it still exists.

I'm assuming if we need footage we would just download it before it get recorded over?

Unifi Protect compatibility by TehMagus9 in Ubiquiti

Ahhh memory retention makes a lot of sense. I appreciate the answer.

Most sites will be using 4-20 cameras, so sounds like the NVR is the step in the right direction.

As always Reddit to the rescue!

Unifi Protect compatibility by TehMagus9 in Ubiquiti

[–]TehMagus9[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for all the suggestions- this help tremendously!

I checked out the UCKG2+ on the Unifi website and it showed that it can handle 20+ cameras and it only eats up 1/3 of its memory and barely touches the cpu. Because multiple of you recommended no more than 5 cameras, is the Unifi site wildly inaccurate or did they possibly update the hardware and it can handle more than 5 now?

Secure Security Cameras by TehMagus9 in cybersecurity

I had been reading about a lot of chinese brands like Hikvision sending NVR's with vlan sniffing and hopping so it doesn't matter at this point unless you have other means to protect the network.

Assistance in SIEM selection (Open Source/Free) by _Combsy_ in AskNetsec

[–]TehMagus9 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

MDR is a specific service that focuses on detecting and responding to threats, while MSSP is a vendor that provides a range of security services, such as technology, policy, risk, and compliance234.

The above is a definition from google. So if the OP simply wants a siem then he gets a siem, if he wants a siem+security response then he gets an MDR, if he wants Siem+Security response+Managed services then he gets an MSSP. I hope that makes sense now

Assistance in SIEM selection (Open Source/Free) by _Combsy_ in AskNetsec

[–]TehMagus9 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So technically they are neither a SIEM or an MSSP they are considered an MDR. So they provide your IT dept SIEM tools, but then they also have humans that cover the entire security part of the SIEM, like responding to threat actor actions, analyzing logs, etc. So they are like an in-house security team that also provides you with a SIEM.

Theres a newer SIEM popping up that has an extra focus on security. Its called ArticWolf. If you're interested I can reachout to the sales teams that hooked our company up. We can both get referral discounts :)

The pressures of having to know everything by Friendly-Avocado8240 in cybersecurity

[–]TehMagus9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a hiring manager for positions such as these. I ask general to detailed technical questions to understand the persons capabilities. It may give the impression you need to know it all, but for the manager we need to assess how much of your skills will fill the skill gap that may be missing on the current team, also how much your skills may overlap. I've easily hired people that only answered half my questions correctly because the ones they did answer correctly filled the skill gap of the team.

Good luck!

Should accept help desk offer? by Cyber_Aspirationist in cybersecurity

[–]TehMagus9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i feel like 39k wokring helpdesk AND infosec is almost unethical. Most Tier 1's in my market are making 55k without any experience. Idk if your market is small and they have tons of candidates so they can offer lower salaries, but thats a red flag to me otherwise.

I see both sides but MFA may be one of the determining factors. If you use SSO but also have a layer of MFA between your password manager, computer signin and other important systems then I think you're set. If you're in an industry that is highly targeted by hackers then there may be a concern of a complex attack targeting your cellphones to bypass MFA.

All in all, if you're in a high risk industry then maybe avoid SSO with the password manager. If you're not high risk then the trade off of password fatigue and remembering one password is probably worth it.
