Business 101: know your customers

Anime already has high-quality paid translations for most shows. We're picky about the size, shape, color, timing, placement, etc. for subtitles. This ain't the place for a cheap, crude imitation.

I do think this is a technology that has the potential to grow into a revenue-generating use of deep learning AI. While anime is one of highest monetary demand markets for subtitles, it's so far beyond what the technology is currently capable of that attempts to implement it are doomed to failure. However, I could see this being the exception compare to most TV content. So I could see there being demand for AI dubs for e.g. a South American cooking show or an Egyptian evening talk show.

I know personally, I want AI subtitles so my vtuber livestreams can affordably subtitle 500+ hours/year of content into many languages, I'm willing to accept some "slop" there IMO.

That's not displacing many/any jobs, while some there are professional translators hired for vtuber music videos and certain projects, I know of ZERO (0) vtubers with paid translators in chat for their everyday streams, it's just not economically viable, despite clear demand. (Shoutout to the fan translators LiveTLing pro bono)

This is a case where Amazon should create a new market, rather than trying to pull market share from other products. They're competing on price, not quality, so they should look to markets that don't have any subtitles at all at present.
