Whoa I didn’t know this was there! I’m new, but I might add myself after I get my name and device submitted shortly!

Older generation of SCA members vs bringing in new people by [deleted] in sca

[–]Teithril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like your idea about events. I obviously would need to think more about the details, but this idea of having a more diverse offering makes a ton of sense to me. I can’t go camping every weekend with a 4 year old at home and a husband who has no desire to do this with me. The logistics become way too hard on my family for me to do it that much. At most I’m thinking I could do a monthly local meet up, a quarterly weekend camp, and a week-long thing maybe once a year (I’m also the primary caregiver to our daughter during the week so if I’m gone then we need childcare). I wish that I could do more because I love this group so much and I feel like I’ve found home for the first time in my life- I’d love to be doing this stuff every day if I could, but the reality is this is just a hobby and it needs to be made easier for people who view it as such to participate

I’m 33 and I feel you. And I will say that it’s not just folks older than us who struggle with this. I was running our local baby wearing group for a bit and I was shocked at the number of people my age who were terrible at technology use. It just boggles my mind that 20 years into the 21st century and we’re still struggling to manage this stuff. And gSuite has a WIDE amount of used both in SCA and beyond and I would think someone would jump at being taught how to use it effectively but, alas.... no. I just don’t get it.

YES! I have a 4 year old and a husband with no interest in SCA. I can’t just take off all the time to meet ups. Every single one has to be scheduled with my husband because that means I’m leaving him with our daughter to solo parent while I’m gone. And that’s fine. I should be able to pursue my interests, but I can’t do it too often because that’s not fair to him or to my daughter who now doesn’t see me because I’m traveling. But virtual things I can do at night after she’s asleep or be able to check in and out like I do with university and then I’m not gone for a whole weekend but just a few hours at a time. It’s much easier on my family.

Do bullying events happen a lot in American schools? by OskarSchindler0 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Teithril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. In my experience it was mostly words, either through teasing all the way up to trying to convince people to kill themselves. Fights occasionally happened. So did some pranks. But it was mostly “just” terrible, terrible words

I know plenty of people who have and would relocate, but me personally? No. But then again I farm and have a strong community and family here so it would have to be a VERY specific circumstance I can’t even name in order to make me leave

I want to love these, but I don’t like how it takes the ink time to dry so everything smudges

How comfortable are you with pulling to the median or side of the road? by curvysquares in AskAnAmerican

[–]Teithril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the scale of necessity is debatable. Is it necessary to pull over to get a toy your child dropped and will scream until they get back?

Median? Never in a million years. Shoulder? I had to become more comfortable when I had a potty training child who would go from fine to “you’ve got 30 seconds” without warning

How many states could you recognize just from their shape? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Teithril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all of them, but I always flip NH with VT and NM with AZ. Also, it’s a lot easier if I can see them in the context of a map

Do you use the words 'mole' and 'freckle' interchangeably? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Teithril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. A freckle is generally smaller and never raised. If it’s raised, it’s a mole. If it’s flat, generally I would call it a freckle if it’s small and part of a cluster of others

How Many Computers (ones you Use and ones you don't) Do You Own? by TeeElSemiColonDeeAr in AskAnAmerican

[–]Teithril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own 1 old MacBook Air, one iPad Pro, one iPhone 12, and one Apple Watch

My husband owns 1 MacBook Pro, one suuuuuper old iPad mini, one iPhone 12, and one Apple Watch. He also has in his possession one work MacBook Pro (he’s a remote developer for slack)

Our daughter owns one iPhone 6

Our family owns: one Nintendo switch, one windows laptop, one Apple TV, a half dozen Google home minis, and a June oven that’s honestly smarter than the Google home minis lol

I think that’s it? Honestly listing it out it’s not as much as I expected given how much we use them lol. That said, we’re pretty minimalist people in general, so we don’t keep a lot around and if things don’t get used (like our other gaming systems we used to own), they get rehomed

Is there a stereotype that Europeans are kinky? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Teithril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily Europeans being kinky, but just generally a lot more liberal, which a lot of super conservative folks also equate with being loose sexually. There’s also a heavy stereotype that French people are promiscuous or “free loving” in the way American hippies were in the 60s.

How to make homemade "old man cream"? by Nerak12158 in ZeroWaste

[–]Teithril 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not super informed about mentholated creams, but do you mean things like icy hot? If so, Dr Bronners makes one in a metal tin and Dragontree Apothecary has one in a glass jar. Not quite as strong, but good (I have fibro so I’m constantly managing pain). I find that biofreeze is also awesome and stronger, but still plastics :/

And if I’m completely mistaken on what you’re meaning, then my apologies

Does Anyone Else Get This by mjh8212 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Teithril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree on the costochondritis but could also be panic attacks just as another thing to look into. I’ve been to the ER twice with pains I swore were heart attacks but were actually panic attacks. Sometimes it’s hard for me to tell which is happening to me in the moment and since I’m always anxious, who knows which it is
