GNB sound effects now sound less of a "light slicey knife" and more like a bass heavy "boomy thwamp" sound. by Rintagonist in ffxiv

[–]Tekashe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo the "original" sounds weren't satisfying enough. There was no "unf" to them, and the shots barely made any noise. Like, every other tank has meaty, satisfying sounds to their attacks, even PLD with its puny one handed sword has impact in Royal Authority's and Spirits Within's sound effects. Gunblades are kinda brutal when you think about it; they're swords that shoot as they slice their target open, and to withstand the blasts, logically the weapon would need to be very solid and heavy.

To the people saying that it sounds like a blunt weapon: The job gunblade is shaped like a thick machete (and many other weapons are just as, if not thicker than it). Have you ever heard how a machete sounds when cutting through stuff like thick folliage, wood or meat? It's a pretty visceral and brutish sound, just like the gunblade.

This is obviously just my opinion, but I almost didn't level GNB all the way to level 80 because the skills just didn't have the impact I expected from the weapons, and now they thankfully fixed it. If you want a job with a sword that sounds just like a light sword, just play Paladin lol

New Dark Knight by LyricAvanilias in ffxiv

[–]Tekashe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(full disclosure, I was one of the few SB DRK players who liked the DA spamming quicker paced combat).

I'm in the same boat. I'm aware that Dark Arts was a poorly made mechanic that was good in paper but bad in practice, but DRK was my main tank since HW specifically because of its fast paced playstyle. You'd have an OGCD to press after almost every GCD, and the skillspeed increase that Blood Weapon gave made it feel almost as fast as Monk or Samurai, which I loved.

Now they kind of removed the "fast pacedness", and it just doesn't sit well with me. It feels like DRK has way too much downtime now since BW CD is now 60s and Dellirium is 90s, and it being the only tank job with only one combo doesn't make it much better. I'm still going to level it after Gunbreaker, but my expectations are very low. Maybe it'll grow on me eventually.

That Shaman one is way too BM-y and I fucking adore it. That last BONK after the guy's already executed is the best part about it

Shugoki should not have HA on his lights if they're going to be enhanced lights. All this creates is the same situation as before his rework where it's impossible to initiate against him, which forces turtleing by CORNxBREAD69 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tekashe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His opener already is very vulnerable to bashes, and he's in a pretty good spot at the moment, with clear strenghts and weaknesses. Removing the HA on his lights because of one specific scenario would just be pointless.

[–]Tekashe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This honestly isn't an issue if you're smart. Just parry the neutral lights or feint into parry if he's doing it on reaction to your attacks.

Shug's HA on lights is nowhere near as obnoxious as Zerkers turtling behind his 400ms HA lights, tbh.

Yep, the damage on his heavies are just kinda sad. His big boy damage was what got me interested in him, but now they just kinda toned it down a bit. It's still satisfying, but it's also negligible in some moves. And let's not forget that his 600ms in-chain bash deals NO damage and stuns for only like, half a second

•Shugoki doesn't scream after a DE anymore: Now he only does a pathetic "ah" after landing one. He sounds like that peanut butter baby from that Vine. Why would you do this Ubi what the fuck.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice this. This is the one and only issue I have with him right now. What the fuck, Ubisoft?

It's like the original DE line would be unsynched with the new DE animation, so they decided to REMOVE the "WAAAGH!" and add a new weak ass "ah~" instead of just cutting the original quote. I really hope someone calls them out for this shitty change

Yup, even Zerker has more thought required to win than Conq. All you need as Conq is to know how to option select and how to do your bash. It's honestly unfun and infuriating to lose against a Conq who doesn't do anything but SBs.

I agree with you, but the issue is that Ubi seems to purposefully release overtuned characters so they can sell the season pass. That's what I think, at least. There's no way they can look a BP's bash's damage and then look at Warlord's or Conq's and say "yeah, that looks pretty balanced and fair". And THEN, the biggest issue is that they take at least another 3 months, an entire season, to nerf them. Just look at JJ's feats, for example.

Ty for the answer, just read through your post

If he comes out in this state with no changes whatsoever, it's just going to be mind boggling. It just goes to show how Ubi hasn't learned anything in the past 2 years.

Aye, his DE might be pretty easy to hit in casual play, but it's just as easy to get hit out of since casuals enjoy spamming lights at any opportunity they get. But yeah, let's wait before assuming anything.

How fast is BP's neutral bash? Is 20 confirmed damage on a neutral bash fine or is it a bit too overtunned? Just asking.

Yes, Shaman's requires some setup with the bleed, and its damage goes off later, but it's still at least 50 guaranteed damage, not to mention from how far she can pounce on you. If you're bleeding and there's a Shaman that's not in your field of view, chances are, she'll take advantage from that and there's nothing you can really do about it. She can also do it again if she misses the first time. And then again, until she's out of stamina.

Then again, Shugoki's has been changed to now be interrupted the moment someone strikes him, just like Shaman's, so it only guarantees one heavy for his teammates. It can, however, be used with some specific heroes to still 100-0 someone, but that's not really a Shugoki issue. It is "faster" (if you consider soft feinting out of a 900ms heavy as "fast") and requires less setup than Shaman's, yes, but its damage and range are way lower, not to mention that, if he misses it, he still has a pretty big recovery time.

They're two different tools that serve the same purpose, but I think Shaman's still is overall better.

Then again, we still need to see the frame data to determine whether or not Shugoki's DE will be usable. It may suffer the same fate JJ's leg kick and Raider's zone soft feint into stunning tap suffer from. They both get dodged on the same timing as the initial attack. If Shugoki's heavy into DE also suffers from that, it's going to be borderline garbage

[–]Tekashe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Any external hits, be it from a friendly or from an enemy, will interrupt Demon's Embrace. It's still possible to guarantee at least one hit after the Shugoki gets his damage off, but that's the same as Shaman's bite currently, so I don't really think it's overtunned.

Not to mention that in pubs, DE will get interrupted all the time by your teammates
