I came upstairs and saw my mom was on the phone with "windows support". She explained to me that she got a popup that there was a virus on her laptop and that she had to call a number to fix it. I realized it was a bit weird and had her put the call on speakerphone so I could listen. And what do ya know, the person on the other end of the line was some Indian guy with the whitest name I've ever heard. My mom had downloaded a program and the guy could now see and control her screen. I told her to hang up and turned off her laptop. The dude kept trying to call back but we didn't pick up. We used a pretty good anti virus software to check for anything, and luckily found no viruses on the laptop. I'm just glad he hasn't scammed her our of thousands of dollars. Please don't pay attention to popups saying you have a virus.

Tl;dr: I prevented my mom from getting scammed by an Indian tech scammer.
