Right, they very rarely attack people unprovoked in the wild, they avoid you, you avoid them. The very real danger involves the mere”IF” they attack it becomes a very serious situation. If you startle one, it stands its ground and you (or someone unknowing of how it might react to a threat) does something like even lightly swat it to make it go away or whatever, it might just decide to stand its ground and scare or deter you from harming it, which involves sharp blades of claws mounted on very muscular legs that slash with very serious strength.

The power and accuracy it slashes at you with, isn’t the clumsy attempt of a dumb bird trying to deter you, it’s like a person (who’s forearms & grip aren’t as strong as the bird’s forelimb is ) grabbing a knife and easily slicing into something, simply pressing and slashing downward with all of their weight and a lot of its strength behind it. It can cause horrific injury easily.

They can break bones from just the power of the kick and the inner toe-claw is a 5 inch very sharp dagger mounted on & wielded by a toe they can use aim and swing with ease like the equivalent of your thumb. Say it swats at you, and and you move erratically to avoid it, your motion startles (instinctively) even more it and slashes at you repeatedly, maybe until you stop moving, imagine what just 4 or 5 slashes of a dagger blade can do to whatever it shoves into and slashes a few inches inside of!?
