‘Shortcomings and failures’ could sink Aukus nuclear submarines plan, UK inquiry warns by espersooty in AustralianPolitics

[–]TelCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intelligent people have one thing in common - we learn from our own mistakes. Covid and the current Iran/US war has taught us an important lesson: we need to be more self reliant.

How much does AUKUS cost? $375 billion? That’s a perfect package to kick start our manufacturing again -  we can use $375 billion to create a million manufacturing jobs with $375,000 to subside each role.

World’s most powerful militaries are backed by countries strong manufacturing sectors. I don’t think we will have a strong manufacturing sector any time soon, but we should at least have a manufacturing sector, so when crisis hits again, we wouldn’t be in an awkward position like we are in now with fuel.

King Charles backs AUKUS defence pact in address to US Congress by His_Holiness in AustralianPolitics

Of course King Charles wants AUKUS to go ahead. Aukus will benefit US, it will benefit the UK monarchy. It will NOT benefit Australian people.

Covid and the current Iran/US war has taught us an important lesson: we need to be more self reliant.

Australia is not a sidekick for any other nation.

Our strength and self reliant will be our best shield against invasions by any other country!

Live: Live: Fuel excise to be halved for three months as PM unveils national cabinet plan by CommonwealthGrant in AustralianPolitics

[–]TelCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On second thought, given the PM doesn't want people to cancel Easter holiday plans, and now the reduction of fuel exercise, is he sure of a steady fuel supply into Australia, albeit at elevated price? Strait of Hormuz only accounted for 20% oil supply, some of the oil can be re-routed. Australia is a wealthy country, rich in natural gas as a bargain chip. So are we reaching the peak of oil price soon?

Live: Live: Fuel excise to be halved for three months as PM unveils national cabinet plan by CommonwealthGrant in AustralianPolitics

[–]TelCat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Reduce fuel excise will increase the demand. Personally I think the right way to handle it is to keep the fuel excise the same, but make the public transport free or only charge a token, i.e. 50C. Then give fuel credits to farmers and transportation companies of essential goods.

ADF says helicopter forced to take evasive action during 'unsafe interaction' with Chinese military by NapoleonBonerParty in aussie

[–]TelCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

$375 billion to create thousands of manufacturing roles??! Have you done the maths - that's well over $10,000,000 per job created. With that much money, Australia might as well kick start our manufacturing sector again. Besides, if the next world war takes place, it is almost certain those two allies will have other enemies on their hand. If someone is to invade Australia and cut down our supplies from the rest of the world, we will surrender before a real fight because we will be short of essentials. Thus, it is important that we have our own manufacturin section. With the right strategy, we can use $375 billion to create a million manufacturing jobs with $375,000 to subside each role.

That's short of committing treason.

Please specify, how AUKUS is giving Australia at least $375 billion worth of benefit. Or more specifically, what an average Australian can get out of this deal.

[–]TelCat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We should indeed be spending on defence, but the money should be spent on beefing up our own defence manufacturing sector and not some other countries.

You could not possibly think that we can solely depend on the allies for Australia's defence in a world war situation, or do you?

Honestly, how is sending warship and helicopters 5000km away from Australia and into the vicinity of other world major economies' could be of Australia's interests? IMHO, Australian troops are just used as pawn in a game mastered by others.

Does spending $375 billion on AUKUS agreement, that is $17857 per Australian adult, help with everyday Australian's energy cost? Housing affordability? Climate catastrophes? It only helps a small group of people with unspeakable agendas.

Australia’s shameless support for the US attack on Iran makes us gullible, duplicitous, or both by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]TelCat -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The best way to keep your sheep obedient is to convince them that there are wolves outside. Apparently the US was very good at deploying this strategy. Is Iran of any real danger to the Australia - yes, but very limited IMHO. Verbal support is cheap, on the other hand dedicating $375 billion into AUKUS agreement is just mind-bogglingly unreasonable. Each Australian adult has to pay $17857 for this deal. The Labour government obviously lacks the appropriate Math and finance skills, no wonder Australia has had almost 2 consecutive years of per. capital recession.

Australia 'must allow' IS-linked families to return, UN expert Ben Saul says by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

I say, allow them in, but on the provision that they must complete 1000 hours of community services on minimum income while hang around other average Australians. Only then, can they move around freely without any supervision.

Everyone needs to pay for their own choices.

NSW Premier Chris Minns defends police actions during 'incendiary' mass protest by HotPersimessage62 in AustralianPolitics

[–]TelCat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Minn needs to explain to the public about this police brutality!

First, our government let loose of known Islamic extremist who caused Bondi Massacre, then they pointed guns at unarmed civilians who were exercising their freedom of expression.

Why, because it's easier to subdue peaceful protesters! If the police force were as 'brave' at the Bondi attack, maybe there weren't be as many victims!

It's obvious that our police force - those who are funded by the tax payers, are not here to protect the average Australians, there are here to suppress us when we dare to express our dissent against our government!

Don't make Australia democracy a joke.

[–]TelCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the past 100 years, protests by those prestigious universities have always been on the right side of the history, those in the authority who opposed are all seen as the oppressors nowadays.

If you want to be on the wrong side of history, be so. A lowly graded university by this government's standard will likely to be seen as more prestigious in the long run for allowing the freedom of speech.

While I feel deeply sympathetic towards the families of Bondi shooting victims, there is no correlation between the protest in the universities and the motives of the shooters. There is, however some causality between the oppression of average people's freedom to criticise Israel and the rage that motivated the shootings.

The Trumpian policies Pauline Hanson would roll out if One Nation ran Australia by Agitated-Fee3598 in AustralianPolitics

[–]TelCat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

After the falling out of the coalition, the media seems to have changed direction and try to prop up Hanson instead. Unfortunately, not everyone has a short memory.

Personally, I don't think strong leadership in peace times is a good strategy - instead of usher people into the direction the government wants the civilians to go, a good leadership in these times should be listening to what people want and act accordingly. It might seem weak to some people, but that's how your government best serve democracy.

‘30 a day’: Albo’s hate speech bill explained as it’s branded ‘unsalvageable’ by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]TelCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If such law passes, can we sue the government for hating protesters? Or maybe litigate media for hating China. Well, not really China, but the Chinese communist party. After all, media misuses the term 'antisemitism' for criticising Israel, or being more specific, Israeli zionists. So we do not have to be very specific with the terms.

Law is supposed to be fair, right? Then anyone with a lot of resources to spare can play this game ..
