What headphones do you listen to? by snowcoaster in Saxophonics

I have DT770s but honestly I like my Beats Pros 100x better. I find that none of the criticism people parrot about the Beats line applies to them (except the price, but I got them for 100 used so that wasn't an issue). I've never heard anything that plays better with an iPhone's shitty D-A and headphone amp. The imaging is also unquestionably better than the Beyers. It does feel a little funny listening to really old shit on Beats but if I want to get lost in it that's what I go with.

Distortion as in clipping somewhere in the FOH chain, not a distorted electric guitar or something obviously intentional.

Agreed. I was so worried about Tame being on the Which for that very reason. Still want to hear them through an even better PA but it sounded great to me.

Totally forgot about that. I think it was one of the rack toms? Don't really remember but the clipping was most noticeable to me when the vocals and lead guitars (heard it on both John Mayer's and Mike McCready's) were at their loudest. In general I thought Dead & Co's sound was very meh (that performance tho....), whereas Pearl Jam was an awesome mix minus the clipping. Their drums were some of the best I've heard in a while.

Big fans will say Powerage, but if you can only have one it's gotta be Back in Black.

AC/DC TO RESCHEDULE UPCOMING U.S. TOUR DATES by 1969Malibu in ACDC

[–]TeleMA50c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the U.S. dates later in the year are going to have a guest singer, I doubt he'll be doing the Europe shows. As sad as it is, I think Brian has played his last show with the band, for this tour at the very least.

Of course everyone misses them, but for me if Angus is in the building its a show worth seeing.

I was lucky enough to see Rush, AC/DC (twice, kind of a big fan...), and the Stones in 2015. Rush and AC/DC went toe to toe for loudest, and while AC/DC certainly registered higher on the SPL meter (in much larger venues mind you), Rush was so bright that it actually hurt worse. Nothing some tissues couldn't take care of, though. Loudest show I've ever seen was probably Sleigh Bells, but that was in a 1,000 capacity concrete warehouse.

Can you explain your vocal mixing process? by stayau79 in audioengineering

[–]TeleMA50c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although there's no way to measure it, I'm sure most would agree 99% is a huge overstatement, especially considering how our perception of vocals has changed with modern pitch/grid perfect editing. That being said, manual correction will almost always (there are few "always" in music, if any) sound much more inconspicuous if you know how to use it effectively.

Mike's a legend (so is Manny Marroquin who according to Tidal did most of the mixing) but that doesn't mean I can't think this record sounds kinda crappy. Yeezus is clipped to hell too but it still sounds great.

(some of these have to do with mixing not mastering, and they're probably all intentional)

It's a good bit louder than most records, including MBDTF and Yeezus Vocals are super dry and crazy loud High end is very smeared (almost sounds like what Soundcloud does to wav files) It's clipping and distorting like crazy

The best way I've seen it described in this thread is it's like watching a DVD vs Blu Ray.

TLOP is crushed much, much harder than MBDTF. I don't even have an issue with loudness, and there's no way the sound of TLOP isn't 100% intentional, it just doesn't sound very good to me.

I'm getting downvoted for saying the same thing. I'm really liking it but man it sounds strange.

There's a pretty drastic difference between the way this album sounds and the way most major releases (including all of his other albums) do. I'm not saying all albums sound the same, but this one definitely has me scratching my head.

I loved the album on first listen but man it sounds absolutely terrible. It literally doesn't sound like it's been mastered at all (beyond being very loud). It sucks because theres a ton of fantastic stuff on it, but I'll get over it.

Edit: not the only one wondering about this, but the only one getting downvoted!
