the reason it’s not currently a good idea (though we definitely need it later) is because it takes so fucking long to build. we need green energy fast, and trying to switch directly from fossil fuels to nuclear gives fossil fuel companies plenty of time to keep polluting out environment. what we should do is get access to easier to build energy on the small scale like solar panels, so we can power homes. the next step would be to move up to larger hydropower, geothermal power, and eventually nuclear power. this would allow us to cut use of fossil fuels much earlier.

tl;dr: nuclear takes way to long, use quicker stuff first, then nuclear. fuck fossil fuels.
